Guide
Gameplan
Kitsa is a mono-blue spellslinger commander that turns your cheap cantrips and instants/sorceries into card advantage and tempo. Each turn you chain noncreature spells to pump prowess, loot with the tap ability to dig for gas, and once Kitsa hits 3+ power you copy your best spell—doubling burn, draw, or a game-ending finisher. The deck plays a tempo-control game, protecting Kitsa and using copied spells to snowball.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage from looting plus copying spells effectively reads two-for-one on key cards
- Cheap two-mana commander that comes online fast and pumps with prowess for chip damage or evasive threats
- Mono-blue gives access to the best counterspells, card draw, and protection in the format
- Copy ability scales—copying X spells, draw spells, or tutors creates explosive turns
Weaknesses
- Mono-blue lacks efficient removal for resolved permanents and has no access to board wipes outside of bounce
- Heavily commander-dependent; repeated removal on Kitsa cripples the engine
- Copy ability requires Kitsa at 3+ power, so you must invest a spell each turn before activating
- Vulnerable to creature-light hate and graveyard/storm hate in spell-heavy metas
Key Cards
- Mystic Remora — Cheap repeatable card advantage that feeds your spell engine and fuels prowess turns.
- Brainstorm — Synergizes with the loot ability and copy doubles the dig while triggering prowess.
- Stroke of Genius — A scalable X-draw or kill spell that becomes lethal or backbreaking when copied.
- Cyclonic Rift — Premier mono-blue reset that swings games, and copying it is overkill insurance.
- Snapcaster Mage — Recasts copied instants for even more value while adding a prowess-pumping body.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault) and efficient cantrips to chain spells faster and reach the 3-power copy threshold reliably. Lean into copy-friendly payoffs like Stroke of Genius, Expansion // Explosion, and extra-turn spells, and tighten the interaction suite with Force of Will, Pact of Negation, and Swan Song. For a true combo line, include infinite-mana enablers plus an X-draw outlet to win on the spot.

- ▸Doubling a game-ending spell (e.g., copied extra-turn or mass-bounce into alpha strike)
- ▸Combo finish via copied draw engines and infinite mana payoffs
Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Prowess and the copy ability reward casting a high density of cheap instants and sorceries.
- Control — Mono-blue counters and bounce keep the table in check while Kitsa generates card advantage.
- Combo — Copying tutors, X-draw spells, or infinite mana payoffs can assemble or close out games quickly.
