Liberty Prime, Recharged
The Commander
Guide
Gameplan
Liberty Prime is a 5-mana Jeskai energy engine on a body: keep it fed with energy so it can attack and block freely, and use its sacrifice-an-artifact ability to convert spare artifacts into energy and cards. You build an artifact-heavy battlefield, generate a steady stream of , and grind out value while swinging with a vigilant, trampling, hasty beater. Win by going wide/tall with artifacts, looping recursion fodder for cards and energy, or assembling an energy-fueled combo or big mana payoff.
Strengths
- Comes online immediately with haste, vigilance, and trample for relevant combat pressure
- Built-in card advantage engine that turns spare artifacts into energy and cards
- Energy is a flexible resource that synergizes with a deep pool of Kaladesh/Aetherdrift payoffs
- Jeskai gives access to powerful artifact support, card draw, and removal
- Sacrifice outlet pairs well with token artifacts, Treasures, and recursion loops
Weaknesses
- Self-sacrifices every combat unless you keep two energy banked, so an energy drought sidelines it
- Needs a constant supply of artifacts to fuel its ability, making it artifact-dependent
- Five mana and removal-prone—repeated recasting drains tempo
- Energy synergies are narrow; without payoffs the
can pile up unused
- Wants both a wide artifact base and a deep energy package, straining deckbuilding space
Key Cards
- Aetherworks Marvel — Sacrifices itself for value and turns banked energy into free spells, a perfect Liberty Prime payoff.
- Decoction Module — Generates energy whenever creatures or artifacts enter, keeping Liberty Prime fed for combat.
- Aetherflux Reservoir — Converts your incidental life and energy-driven engine into a one-shot kill across the table.
- Ledger Shredder — Cheap evasive engine—stand-in for any cheap artifact-fodder generator that fuels the sacrifice ability.
- Aether Hub — Fixes Jeskai mana while topping off energy reserves to keep Liberty Prime attacking.
- Mishra's Bauble — Free artifact to sac for energy and a card, ideal cheap fodder for the activated ability.
- Whirler Rogue — Produces multiple Thopter artifacts to feed the sacrifice engine and provide evasion.
- Energy Refractor — Cheap artifact that banks energy and can itself be sacrificed for more, fueling the whole plan.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the energy package around true payoffs (Aetherworks Marvel, Aetherflux Reservoir, Decoction Module) and cheap fodder generators so Liberty Prime never goes hungry. Add fast mana and efficient artifact tutors like Whir of Invention or Inventors' Fair, plus protection such as Lightning Greaves to keep your commander on the board. Lean into a compact combo finish (energy storage into Marvel/Reservoir) to give the grindy engine a decisive closer.

- Aristocrats (Artifact Sacrifice) — Its activated ability is a repeatable sac outlet that loves recursive and token artifacts.
- Voltron/Aggro — Vigilance, trample, and haste make it a fine attacker you can buff while it defends with energy banked.
