Narset, Enlightened Exile
The Commander
Creatures you control have prowess.
Whenever Narset attacks, exile target noncreature, nonland card with mana value less than Narset's power from a graveyard and copy it. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast cheap noncreature spells to grow Narset and your team via prowess, then attack to free-cast a graveyard spell each combat. You snowball card and mana advantage by recasting powerful instants, sorceries, artifacts, and enchantments for free, ending games with a wide, pumped board or chained spell copies.
Strengths
- Built-in card and mana advantage every attack via free spell copies
- Prowess makes the whole team scale with your spell density
- Jeskai colors give premier interaction, card draw, and combo support
- Self-fueling: pump Narset's power, then cast even bigger graveyard spells
Weaknesses
- Trigger requires Narset to connect, so removal and blockers shut her down
- Power-based mana value cap means you must pump her to hit big spells
- Relies on graveyards (yours or opponents') having good targets
- Three colors make the mana base and color requirements demanding
- Commander-dependent value with little resilience to repeated removal
Key Cards
- Monastery Mentor — Generates a token for each noncreature spell, multiplying prowess bodies alongside Narset.
- Lightning Greaves — Protects Narset from removal and lets her attack safely the turn she lands.
- Embercleave — Cheap to cast off prowess attackers and adds power to push Narset's mana value cap higher.
- Sevinne's Reclamation — Recurs cheap spells while flashback fuels the graveyard you want to exploit.
- Mystic Confluence — A high-value instant you love to copy off Narset's attack trigger for free.
- Jeskai Ascendancy — Pumps the team and untaps creatures on each noncreature cast, enabling explosive attacks and loops.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, signets) and protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Heroic Intervention) to ensure Narset attacks unimpeded. Tighten the spell suite toward efficient cantrips and high-impact noncreature targets like Time Warp effects, and lean into a combo finish such as Jeskai Ascendancy plus cheap spells or Aetherflux Reservoir to convert your engine into reliable wins.
