Magda, the Hoardmaster
The Commander
Whenever you commit a crime, create a tapped Treasure token. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Targeting opponents, anything they control, and/or cards in their graveyards is a crime.)
Sacrifice three Treasures: Create a 4/4 red Scorpion Dragon creature token with flying and haste. Activate only as a sorcery.
Guide
Gameplan
Commit crimes every turn to snowball Treasure tokens, then convert them into 4/4 flying haste Dragons or ramp into big spells. You play aggressively, targeting opponents with burn, removal, and Goad effects to keep triggering Magda, eventually overwhelming the table with Dragons or explosive mono-red plays.
Strengths
- Generates free ramp/value just by playing normal interactive red spells (burn, removal)
- Built-in mana-free token win engine via the Dragon ability
- Cheap two-mana commander that comes down early and snowballs fast
- Treasures fuel powerful artifact and ramp synergies in mono-red
Weaknesses
- Crime trigger is limited to once per turn, capping Treasure velocity
- Mono-red lacks card draw and reliable interaction outside removal
- Vulnerable to board wipes and Treasure/artifact hate (e.g. Collector Ouphe, Stony Silence)
- Commander is a small body that's easily killed, slowing the engine
Key Cards
- Magda, Brazen Outlaw — The other Magda turns Dwarves and Treasures into tutoring power, but here cheap repeatable crimes matter most.
- Reckless Fireweaver — Pings each opponent as Treasures are created, turning your engine into incremental burn damage.
- Goldspan Dragon — Doubles every Treasure's value and makes attacking with it a crime-worthy threat.
- Mechanized Production — With a stream of Treasures it provides an alternate win the turn you hit eight artifacts.
- Dockside Extortionist — Floods the board with Treasures to immediately fuel multiple Dragon activations.
- Pia Nalaar's Crew — Cheap repeatable crime enablers keep Magda's once-per-turn trigger reliably online.
Upgrade Path
Add more cheap, repeatable crime enablers (cantrip pingers, Goad effects, snipe spells) so the once-per-turn Treasure trigger never goes unused. Layer in Treasure doublers (Goldspan Dragon, Xorn) and artifact payoffs (Mechanized Production, Reckless Fireweaver) to convert ramp into damage, and improve mana with fast rocks and rituals to enable explosive turns. Top-end can include Ancient Copper Dragon or Etali, Primal Conqueror as Treasure sinks that snowball into wins.

- ▸Treasure-fueled burn and pingers like Reckless Fireweaver

- Aggro/Tokens — The Scorpion Dragon ability churns out 4/4 flying haste beaters to close games fast.
- Spellslinger Burn — Targeting opponents with burn and removal naturally satisfies the crime condition.
