Obyra, Dreaming Duelist
The Commander
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with cheap evasive Faeries, each one pinging every opponent for 1 as they enter, and grind the table down with flash interaction and incremental life loss. You play at instant speed, holding up counters and flash creatures, then close games with mass Faerie token production or a wide flying alpha strike. Obyra turns every Faerie ETB into reach, so blink and recursion effects multiply your damage.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that's easy to recast and immediately impacts the board
- Flash-heavy tribal lets you play reactively and hold up interaction
- Evasive flyers make racing and chip damage very reliable
- Faerie token producers convert into huge bursts of life loss through Obyra
Weaknesses
- Damage output is low and grindy without token swarm or blink engines
- Vulnerable to board wipes since the strategy is creature-density dependent
- Obyra himself is fragile and a removal magnet at 1 toughness in combat
- Pings only trigger on OTHER Faeries entering, so non-Faerie support doesn't advance the clock
Key Cards
- Bitterblossom — Makes a Faerie token every upkeep, triggering Obyra to drain all opponents each turn for free.
- Spellstutter Sprite — A flash Faerie that counters spells AND pings the table, the archetypal value play.
- Brago, King Eternal — Blinking your Faeries re-triggers their ETBs and Obyra's drains repeatedly.
- Faerie Mastermind — Flash flyer that draws cards off opponents while adding to the Faerie count and Obyra triggers.
- Scion of Oona — Anthem and protection for your Faeries, shielding the board from targeted removal.
- Obyra, Dreaming Duelist — The engine: every other Faerie entering drains each opponent, scaling with token output.
Upgrade Path
Add density of cheap Faeries and token engines (Bitterblossom, Spinerock Knoll-style burst, Faerie token makers) plus blink payoffs to multiply Obyra triggers. Tighten the mana with fast rocks and dual lands so you can hold flash interaction every turn, and include anthems like Coat of Arms or Door of Destinies to flip the tribe into a lethal swarm. For higher power, lean into a combo finish such as Bitterblossom plus repeatable blink loops to drain the table out of nowhere.
