The First Sliver
The Commander
Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)
Sliver spells you cast have cascade.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast The First Sliver and then chain Sliver spells, each one triggering cascade to generate massive free value and snowball your board into an unstoppable hive. You flood the table with anthem and keyword-granting Slivers, then overwhelm opponents with a swarm that gains lifelink, haste, flying, and pump simultaneously.
Strengths
- Cascade on every Sliver spell generates enormous card and mana advantage
- Stacking Sliver lords creates an explosive, evasive, hard-to-block board very fast
- Five-color identity gives access to the best ramp, removal, and tutors
- Tribal redundancy means many Slivers grant the whole board the same keywords
Weaknesses
- Extremely board-wipe vulnerable since the strategy is all-in on creatures
- Relies heavily on the commander being in play to enable cascade chains
- Cascade is somewhat random and can whiff into lands or undesirable hits
- Painted as the table's biggest threat, drawing early removal and aggression
- Color-intensive five-color mana base can be inconsistent without fixing
Key Cards
- Sliver Overlord — Repeatable tutor pulls any Sliver to hand or directly into play, smoothing out your curve and chains.
- Sliver Hive — Fixes all five colors and makes Sliver tokens when you have mana to spare.
- Heart Sliver — Cheap Sliver that grants haste, letting your freshly cascaded creatures attack immediately.
- Manaweft Sliver — Turns your whole board into mana dorks, ramping you into more Sliver spells and cascade triggers.
- Cloudshredder Sliver — Grants flying and haste to the entire hive, providing evasion to close games quickly.
- The First Sliver — The engine itself—every Sliver you cast cascades, snowballing your board and card advantage.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and ramp like Sol Ring, Cultivate, and Smothering Tithe alongside green tutors and Diregraf Captain-style protection to land The First Sliver earlier and more reliably. Lean into haste enablers (Heart Sliver, Cloudshredder Sliver) so cascaded creatures impact the board immediately, and include board-wipe insurance like Heroic Intervention or Teferi's Protection. For a true power spike, build toward an infinite cascade loop with cost reducers and recursion to deck or burn the table out in one turn.
