Urabrask // The Great Work
The Commander
First strike
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, Urabrask deals 1 damage to target opponent. Add .
: Exile Urabrask, then return it to the battlefield transformed under its owner's control. Activate only as a sorcery and only if you've cast three or more instant and/or sorcery spells this turn.
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter.)
I — This Saga deals 3 damage to target opponent and each creature they control.
II — Create three Treasure tokens.
III — Until end of turn, you may cast instant and sorcery spells from any graveyard. If a spell cast this way would be put into a graveyard, exile it instead. Exile this Saga, then return it to the battlefield (front face up).
Guide
Gameplan
You're a mono-red spellslinger that turns every instant and sorcery into mana ramp and incidental damage. Cast cheap spells to ping opponents while Urabrask refunds , building toward casting three-plus spells in a turn to flip into The Great Work for burst damage, Treasures, and graveyard recursion. You win by chaining spells into a lethal burn turn or a storm-style finisher.
Strengths
- Doubles as a ramp engine: every spell adds
, enabling explosive multi-spell turns
- Provides reach and inevitability through repeated direct damage on every cast
- The Great Work's saga gives board control (Anger of the Gods effect), Treasure ramp, and graveyard recasting for value or a second combo turn
- First strike makes Urabrask a respectable early attacker and blocker
- Cheap to recast and flips back front-side, so it's resilient to removal
Weaknesses
- Mono-red gives limited card advantage and almost no interaction with enchantments or instant-speed answers
- Urabrask is a removal magnet that opponents will kill before you assemble a big turn
- Pinging single opponents one at a time is slow against three foes and high life totals
- Flipping requires three spells in a turn, which can be hard without enough cheap cantrips and rituals
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate, counterspells, and going to the air against fliers
Key Cards
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Stacks another mana refund per spell, supercharging chains toward the flip and storm finishes.
- Underworld Breach — Recurs spells from your graveyard to chain into the three-spell flip and lethal damage.
- Grapeshot — A storm payoff that converts a long spell chain into multi-opponent lethal damage.
- Jeska's Will — Refills your hand and floods mana to power out a flip-and-go-off turn.
- Mizzix's Mastery — Lets you recast big spells and pairs with Urabrask's cost reduction-style ramp for explosive turns.
- Reiterate — With enough mana it loops with rituals for infinite spell casts, triggering Urabrask repeatedly for the win.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and rituals (Jeska's Will, Pyretic/Desperate Ritual, Mana Geyser) plus cost reducers like Birgi and Ruby Medallion to consistently hit three spells per turn. Layer in tutors and recursion (Gamble, Underworld Breach, Past in Flames) and an infinite combo (Reiterate + ritual) so you have a deterministic finish. Round out with efficient interaction (Pyroblast, Abrade, Chaos Warp) and card draw like Faithless Looting and Wheel effects to keep the chain fueled.

Win Conditions
- ▸Chaining spells to deal lethal incremental Urabrask damage to each opponent
- ▸Storm finisher like Grapeshot or a big X-burn spell off a Treasure-fueled mana pile
- ▸Infinite spell loops (Reiterate + ritual, or Underworld Breach lines) for unbounded pings
- ▸Beating down with first-strike Urabrask alongside burn to the face
Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Every instant and sorcery pings opponents and ramps you, rewarding a deck full of cheap spells.
- Storm — The mana refund per cast and graveyard recursion enable long chains that finish with storm payoffs.
- Burn — Repeated incidental damage plus the saga's 3-damage trigger and burn spells close games directly.
- Combo — Reiterate-rituals and Underworld Breach loops can generate infinite Urabrask pings for the kill.
