Yuffie, Materia Hunter
The Commander
Ninjutsu (
, Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking.)
When Yuffie enters, gain control of target noncreature artifact for as long as you control Yuffie. Then you may attach an Equipment you control to Yuffie.
Guide
Gameplan
Yuffie sneaks in via Ninjutsu after an unblocked attacker connects, stealing an opponent's best noncreature artifact (mana rock, key piece, equipment) and suiting herself up with an Equipment for the swing. You play a low-curve aggressive red deck built around evasive attackers and cheap equipment, blinking or re-ninjutsu-ing Yuffie to keep stealing artifacts and pressing damage.
Strengths
- Repeatable artifact theft disrupts mana rocks, key combo pieces, and equipment for value swings
- Ninjutsu dodges removal and sneaks past combat, generating tempo every turn
- Cheap commander that turns evasive attackers into damage and equipment carriers
- Strong in artifact-heavy metas where targets are plentiful
Weaknesses
- Mono-red lacks reliable card advantage and noncreature-artifact answers are situational
- Theft only lasts while you control Yuffie—commander removal returns everything at once
- Needs unblocked attackers to enable Ninjutsu; gets stonewalled by ground stalls
- Vulnerable to board wipes and weak against decks running few artifacts
Key Cards
- Ornithopter — Free evasive flier that reliably enables Ninjutsu turn after turn for cheap.
- Changeling Outcast — Unblockable one-drop that guarantees a connection to return for Yuffie's Ninjutsu.
- Sword of Fire and Ice — Equipment to auto-attach on Yuffie's ETB, adding evasion-backed damage and card draw.
- Hammer of Nazahn — Indestructible-granting equipment that auto-attaches and protects your suited-up Yuffie.
- Conjurer's Closet — Reblinks Yuffie each end step to steal another artifact and re-equip.
Upgrade Path
Add more guaranteed-evasion enablers (Tetsuo Umezawa, Slither Blade, Faerie Seer) and protect Yuffie with Hammer of Nazahn or Lightning Greaves so theft sticks. Lean into blink (Conjurer's Closet, Thousand-Year Elixir for haste, Cloudstone Curio) to retrigger her ETB repeatedly. Round out with red's best card advantage—Outpost Siege, Wheel of Misfortune, treasure generators—and impactful equipment like Sword of Feast and Famine to push the clock.
