Aeve, Progenitor Ooze
The Commander
Storm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each spell cast before it this turn. Copies become tokens.)
Aeve isn't legendary if it's a token.
Aeve enters with a +1/+1 counter on it for each other Ooze you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast cheap spells to build storm count, then drop Aeve to flood the board with non-legendary Ooze tokens that buff each other via counters. Spend the early game ramping and developing cantrips/cheap spells, then go off in a single explosive turn or grind out an Ooze tribal army that overwhelms with counters and trample.
Strengths
- Can create a massive, instantly-threatening board from one card via Storm
- Each Aeve token enters bigger as your Ooze count grows, snowballing fast
- Mono-green gives access to elite ramp and resilient creatures
- Token swarm plays well with anthems, doublers, and counter synergies
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on the commander; a single board wipe undoes everything
- Storm count is hard to build meaningfully in mono-green without rituals or cantrips
- Color-locked out of card draw and interaction beyond green's limited toolkit
- Telegraphed combo turn invites targeted removal and counterspells
Key Cards
- Doubling Season — Doubles both the +1/+1 counters Aeve enters with and any tokens you make, supercharging the army.
- Cathars' Crusade — Each Ooze token triggers it, piling counters across the whole board for an explosive swing.
- Trumpeter Snail — Adds Storm to your other creature spells, multiplying tokens and your storm count engine.
- Heroic Intervention — Cheap mono-green protection that shields your fragile token board from wraths and removal.
- Hardened Scales — Adds extra counters every time Aeve and its copies enter, making each token oversized.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Turns a wide Ooze board into a lethal alpha strike in a single attack.
Upgrade Path
Add ritual and cantrip density (Wild Growth effects, cheap mana dorks, and free spells) to reliably build storm count before casting Aeve. Layer in payoff doublers like Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, and Hardened Scales, plus untappers and extra-cast effects to go off in one turn. Round out with protection (Heroic Intervention, Tyvar's Stand) and a hard finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede so your board converts to a kill immediately.
