Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
The Commander
Whenever another creature enters, its controller may draw a card if its power is greater than each other creature's power.
,
: Add X mana in any combination of colors, where X is the greatest power among creatures you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Selvala turns your biggest creature into an explosive mana engine: tap her for mana equal to your greatest power, dump huge creatures, and draw cards off the power-trigger when something enters with the highest power on the board. You ramp absurdly hard, deploy haymakers ahead of schedule, and either bury the table in fatties or assemble a mana-fueled combo to win in one big turn.
Strengths
- Generates enormous, color-flexible mana very early once a sizable creature is in play
- Doubles as card advantage in a color that traditionally lacks draw
- Mono-green keeps the deck consistent and resilient to color screw
- Enables explosive turns and infinite combos with very few pieces
Weaknesses
- Extremely vulnerable to removal—killing Selvala or your big creature collapses the engine
- No interaction inherently; mono-green struggles with counterspells and flexible answers
- The mana ability requires tapping, so summoning sickness and untap effects gate her output
- Her draw trigger benefits all players, occasionally helping opponents' big creatures
Key Cards
- Temur Sabertooth — Bounces Selvala to dodge removal and, with enough mana, enables infinite mana via repeatedly recasting a creature that nets mana.
- Umbral Mantle — Untaps Selvala for
; if her mana output exceeds 3, you generate infinite mana instantly.
- Staff of Domination — Untaps Selvala for
to make infinite mana, then draws your deck or pings the table to win.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — The premier mana sink that converts your ramp into a lethal overrun attack across the table.
- Quirion Ranger — Repeatedly untaps Selvala by returning a Forest, generating extra mana each turn and enabling combos.
- Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger — A massive power creature that supercharges Selvala's output while taxing opponents' mana.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and untap enablers (Sword of the Paruns, Magewright's Stone, Sequestered Stash) to convert Selvala into reliable infinite mana, then include clean payoffs like Walking Ballista or Finale of Devastation. Protect the engine with Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves, and Temur Sabertooth, and lower your curve so you can win the turn Selvala goes online. Tutors like Worldly Tutor, Green Sun's Zenith, and Eldritch Evolution make the combo consistent.

Archetypes
- Big Mana Ramp — Selvala's tap ability produces game-warping mana to deploy fatties far ahead of curve.
- Combo — Pairing her with untappers like Umbral Mantle or Staff of Domination makes infinite mana trivially.
- Stompy/Beatdown — Her power-based engine rewards a board of large creatures that close games with combat.
