Arasta of the Endless Web
The Commander
Reach
Whenever an opponent casts an instant or sorcery spell, create a 1/2 green Spider creature token with reach.
Guide
Gameplan
Arasta turns opponents' instants and sorceries into an ever-growing wall of 1/2 reach Spiders, blunting flyers and combat while you build a board. You play defense early, ramp into bigger threats, and convert your token army into an overwhelming attack or sacrifice fodder. Against spell-heavy tables she snowballs into dozens of blockers, buying time for green's payoffs.
Strengths
- Punishes spellslinger and control opponents with free, repeatable token generation
- Reach-laden tokens shut down flying attackers and Voltron fliers across the table
- Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and token doublers in the format
- Cheap and resilient body that immediately impacts the board
Weaknesses
- Token output is entirely dependent on opponents casting instants/sorceries — does nothing against creature-heavy tables
- Mono-green lacks card draw, removal, and interaction relative to other colors
- Tokens are tiny 1/2s that are poor attackers without anthems or buffs
- Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your accumulated army
Key Cards
- Doubling Season — Doubles every Spider token Arasta makes, exponentially growing your board off opponents' spells.
- Parallel Lives — Cheap token doubler that turns each opponent spell into two Spiders.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Converts a wide Spider board into a lethal overrun finisher.
- Cathars' Crusade — Each Spider token entering pumps your whole team, turning chip blockers into real threats.
- Ashnod's Altar — Sacrifices excess Spiders for mana to fuel huge plays and combo loops.
- Skullclamp — Turns your endless 1/2 tokens into a relentless card-draw engine.
Upgrade Path
Lean into token doublers (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Anointed Procession) and anthem payoffs (Cathars' Crusade, Beastmaster Ascension) to make tiny Spiders matter. Add green's premium ramp (Sol Ring, Cultivate, mana dorks) and card advantage like Beast Whisperer and Skullclamp to refuel, then cap with Craterhoof Behemoth and Overwhelming Stampede as finishers. To raise consistency, include reusable interaction such as Beast Within, Heroic Intervention to protect your board, and Triumph of the Hordes for an infect-based alternate kill.

- ▸Beating down with token doublers turning every opponent spell into lethal pressure
Archetypes
- Tokens — Arasta passively generates a wide creature base that doublers and anthems amplify.
- Go-Wide Aggro — Mass Spiders plus overrun effects like Craterhoof and Overwhelming Stampede close games.
- Aristocrats — Expendable tokens feed sacrifice outlets and altars for value and damage.
- Stax/Pillow Fort — Reach tokens and Arasta's deterrent on spellcasting let you durdle while opponents are taxed for attacking.
