Craig Boone, Novac Guard
The Commander
Reach, lifelink
One for My Baby — Whenever you attack with two or more creatures, put two quest counters on Craig Boone. When you do, Craig Boone deals damage equal to the number of quest counters on it to up to one target creature unless that creature's controller has Craig Boone deal that much damage to them.
Guide
Gameplan
Craig Boone is a go-wide RW aggro/snowball commander: attack with two or more creatures each turn to stack quest counters on him, then fire off escalating damage that picks off blockers or chips opponents to death. Early turns build a wide board with cheap creatures and anthems, mid-game the trigger removes key creatures, and late-game the damage number becomes a direct burn finisher to the face.
Strengths
- Built-in repeatable removal and reach that scales every combat
- Lifelink keeps you stable against other aggro and burn
- Only needs two attackers, so it's easy to turn on every turn
- Counter synergies (proliferate, doublers) make the damage snowball explosively
- Cheap three-mana commander that immediately impacts the board
Weaknesses
- Damage is on a delay—needs counters to build before it threatens lethal
- Relies on attacking, so board wipes and Fog effects set you back hard
- Opponents choose to redirect damage to themselves, dodging your removal
- Commander removal resets the accumulated quest counters
- Can struggle against decks that go bigger or stall the ground with deathtouch/fliers
Key Cards
- Aurelia, the Warleader — Extra combat means a second 'attack with two or more creatures' trigger, doubling counters and damage in one turn.
- Combat Celebrant — Cheap repeatable extra combat to fire the One for My Baby trigger twice and snowball counters fast.
- Inspiring Veteran — Anthem plus tribal support for the Soldier go-wide plan, making your attackers hit harder while you build counters.
- Doubling Season — Doubles the quest counters added each attack, turning the burn output lethal far sooner.
- Skullclamp — Refuels a token-heavy board so you always have two attackers to trigger Boone.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your board and Boone's accumulated counters from wraths and targeted removal.
Upgrade Path
Add counter accelerants like Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, and proliferate effects (Evolution Sage, Karn's Bastion) to make the damage spike faster. Layer in extra-combat enablers (Aurelia, Combat Celebrant, Aggravated Assault) plus protection (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) and a strong anthem package (Intangible Virtue, Cathars' Crusade) to convert a wide board into reliable lethal. Round out with fast mana (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet) and recursion like Skullclamp to keep refueling attackers after wraths.

Win Conditions
- ▸Attacking with a wide, anthemed board for lethal combat damage
- ▸Sending the escalating One for My Baby damage to opponents' faces as repeatable burn
- ▸Using extra combats with Aurelia/Combat Celebrant to double counters and one-shot a player
- ▸Grinding out blockers with the removal trigger until your team connects unopposed
Archetypes
- Go-Wide Tokens — Boone only needs two attackers, so flooding the board with tokens guarantees the trigger and keeps damage scaling.
- Soldiers Tribal — His Human Soldier typing and RW colors line up perfectly with Soldier anthems and token generators.
- Aggro/Burn — The escalating face damage from quest counters turns combat into a reliable direct-damage win condition.
- +1/+1 and Proliferate Counters — Proliferate and counter-doublers supercharge the quest counters that power his removal and burn.
