Dragonlord Dromoka
The Commander
This spell can't be countered.
Flying, lifelink
Your opponents can't cast spells during your turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Drop Dromoka as an uncounterable 5/7 flier with lifelink, then use her turn-locking ability to protect your own combos, swings, and key spells from interaction. You build a midrange-to-stax GW board that out-values opponents, gaining life and pressuring with big creatures while removing your opponents' ability to respond on your turn. Close games through commander damage, go-wide attacks, or a protected combo.
Strengths
- Uncounterable and immune to instant-speed interaction on your turn, making her a reliable, sticky threat
- Lifelink on a 5/7 flier stabilizes against aggro and racing decks
- Locks opponents out of flash blockers, counterspells, and combat tricks during your turn — huge for alpha strikes and combos
- GW gives access to premium ramp, enchantment-based stax, and resilient creatures
Weaknesses
- Does nothing the turn she enters and is vulnerable to sorcery-speed removal and board wipes
- No card advantage engine built in; GW can struggle to refill
- Color identity lacks counterspells and strong recursion of its own
- The lock only applies on your turn, so opponents can still interact and combo on their own turns
Key Cards
- Teferi's Protection — Protects your board and life total when Dromoka can't stop a combo on an opponent's turn.
- Smothering Tithe — Premium white ramp and card advantage that helps a value-grindy GW deck keep pace.
- Avacyn, Angel of Hope — Combines with Dromoka's lock for an alpha strike where opponents can't block, trick, or interact.
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands for double-spell turns and pairs with Dromoka's protection to push damage safely.
- Heliod, Sun-Crowned — Turns Dromoka's lifelink into a repeatable combo and pump engine.
Upgrade Path
Lean into the turn-lock by adding a clean protected combo (e.g., Heliod + Walking Ballista) so opponents can't disrupt it on your turn. Improve mana with fast rocks and untap effects like Sword of Feast and Famine, and add resilience via Teferi's Protection and Heroic Intervention. To raise power further, add stax pieces (Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, Aven Mindcensor) and efficient tutors to consistently find your finisher.

Win Conditions

- ▸Go-wide alpha strike where opponents can't declare flash blockers or tricks

Archetypes
- Midrange Value — Big efficient GW creatures plus lifelink let you grind out the table while staying safe on your turn.
- Stax — Dromoka's turn-lock pairs with tax and lock pieces to shut opponents out of meaningful interaction.
- Voltron — An evasive lifelinker that opponents can't block-trick away closes via commander damage with equipment.
- Combo Protection — Assembling a combo on your turn is safe because opponents can't cast removal or counters in response.
