Elanor Gardner
The Commander
When Elanor enters, create a Food token.
At the beginning of your end step, if you sacrificed a Food this turn, you may search your library for a basic land card, put that card onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
Guide
Gameplan
Sacrifice a Food each turn to ramp a basic land onto the battlefield at your end step, accelerating into big mono-green threats while building a wide Food/sacrifice engine. You snowball your land count, deploy fatties or token armies, and grind out value until you can close with overwhelming board presence or a big finisher.
Strengths
- Repeatable, color-fixed ramp that thins basics and accelerates your mana every turn
- Strong synergy with Food matters and sacrifice payoffs in green
- Low color requirement keeps mana clean and consistent
- Builds an inevitability engine that outscales other green ramp decks in the late game
Weaknesses
- Mono-green lacks card draw and interaction outside of fight/removal
- No built-in evasion or reach—boards can get stalled
- Ramp engine is slow and grindy; vulnerable to faster combo decks
- Relies on having Food fodder; if the sac engine sputters the payoff stalls
- Susceptible to board wipes since the deck wants to overcommit
Key Cards
- Gilded Goose — Generates extra Food tokens to reliably fuel Elanor's end-step land search.
- Trail of Crumbs — Turns each sacrificed Food into card advantage, fixing mono-green's draw problem.
- Cauldron Familiar — Recurs to provide endless Food sacrifices and a drain engine alongside Witch's Oven.
- Witch's Oven — Reliably produces Food each turn to guarantee Elanor's trigger.
- Ashnod's Altar — Lets you sacrifice anything for mana and ensures Food gets sacrificed each turn.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Converts your accelerated mana and wide board into a one-shot kill.
- Feasting Troll King — A huge body you can cheat out by sacrificing the Foods Elanor cares about.
Upgrade Path
Add stronger Food and token engines (Gilded Goose, Academy Manufactor, Tireless Provisioner) and free sacrifice outlets (Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar) to guarantee triggers and enable combos. Improve card advantage with Sylvan Library, Beast Whisperer, and Guardian Project, and add green ramp staples like Cultivate and Three Visits. Finish with reliable haymakers—Craterhoof Behemoth, Finale of Devastation, and Triumph of the Hordes—to convert your accelerated board into kills.
