Erinis, Gloom Stalker
The Commander
Deathtouch
Whenever Erinis attacks, return target land card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Choose a Background (You can have a Background as a second commander.)
Guide
Gameplan
Erinis is a mono-green lands-matter aggro engine: attack each turn to reanimate a land from your graveyard, ramping while also enabling repeatable land-fueled triggers. You self-mill or sacrifice lands (fetches, Dakmor Salvage, fabled passages), then attack to recur them for value, snowballing mana and landfall payoffs into a big board or combo finish. Pick a Background to round out aggression or value, since you're locked into green alone.
Strengths
- Free repeatable land recursion every combat fuels landfall and ramp engines
- Deathtouch makes Erinis a reliable attacker and blocker that trades up
- Mono-green gives access to the format's best ramp and big creatures
- Background slot lets you customize aggression, card draw, or resilience
- Synergizes powerfully with sacrifice lands, fetchlands, and self-mill
Weaknesses
- Mono-green lacks interaction, card draw quality, and removal flexibility
- Trigger requires attacking, so removal or a clogged board stalls the engine
- Needs graveyard setup (mill/sac lands) to be meaningful early
- No evasion innately—deathtouch helps blocking but not pushing damage
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate shutting off the recursion plan
Key Cards
- Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay fetchlands and sac lands while Erinis recurs others, doubling your land engine.
- Ramunap Excavator — A creature-based Crucible that also benefits from green tutors and recursion.
- Lotus Cobra — Turns every Erinis land drop and landfall into explosive mana ramp.
- Scapeshift — Loads the graveyard with lands or sets up landfall payoffs for Erinis to recur.
- Dakmor Salvage — A recurring land with dredge that pairs naturally with Erinis's graveyard recursion.
- Avenger of Zendikar — Massive landfall payoff that floods the board as you replay lands each turn.
Upgrade Path
Add the best mono-green ramp and recursion engines—Crucible of Worlds, Ramunap Excavator, and Lotus Cobra—plus fast mana like Sol Ring and Carpet of Flowers. Tighten the manabase with fetchlands, Strip Mine, and utility lands worth recurring, and include tutors like Green Sun's Zenith and Worldly Tutor. Choose a Background such as Tireless Provisioner or an aggressive one to convert your land engine into faster, more resilient threats.
