Kruphix, God of Horizons
The Commander
Indestructible
As long as your devotion to green and blue is less than seven, Kruphix isn't a creature.
You have no maximum hand size.
If you would lose unspent mana, that mana becomes colorless instead.
Guide
Gameplan
Kruphix lets you bank unused mana as colorless and never discard, so you ramp hard, draw cards, and stockpile resources until you can unleash an overwhelming X-spell, big creature, or game-ending combo in one massive turn. Early turns are spent ramping and filtering; mid-game you accumulate mana and cards; late game you convert that hoard into a backbreaking play your opponents can't answer.
Strengths
- Effectively removes the maximum hand size, letting you sit on counterspells, removal, and bombs indefinitely
- Converts wasted mana into stored colorless, enabling explosive single-turn payoffs with X-spells
- Indestructible body that's hard to remove without exile or bounce
- Simic colors give the best ramp and card draw in the format
- Rewards big mana rocks, ramp dorks, and untap effects beautifully
Weaknesses
- Slow and durdly; vulnerable to fast aggro and combo decks that close before you assemble your turn
- No interaction printed on the commander itself—you must build it in
- Can become an arch-enemy magnet once your hand and mana balloon
- Mana storage is meaningless without strong payoffs to dump it into
- Devotion rarely hits seven, so Kruphix seldom attacks or blocks
Key Cards
- Seedborn Muse — Untaps your lands every turn so you bank enormous colorless mana across all opponents' turns for instant-speed plays.
- Blue Sun's Zenith — The premier mana sink—shuffle it back to draw repeatedly, or fire a lethal X to deck an opponent.
- Mystic Remora — Cheap, recurring card advantage that exploits Kruphix's lack of hand size to bury opponents in cards.
- Nyxbloom Ancient — Triples your mana, and Kruphix stores the overflow, generating absurd colorless reserves.
- Helix Pinnacle — A green mana sink that turns your stockpiled mana directly into a win at instant speed.
- Reliquary Tower — Redundant insurance for unlimited hand size and a useful land slot.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and untap engines—Mana Reflection, Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, Wilderness Reclamation, and Seedborn Muse—to multiply your stored mana, then include tutors (Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor) to find your payoff. Tighten the interaction suite with efficient counters and Cyclonic Rift, and add a compact win like Aetherflux Reservoir or an infinite-mana loop (Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter) so your hoarded mana reliably ends the game before slower turns let opponents catch up.

Win Conditions

Archetypes
- Big Mana Ramp — Kruphix banks excess mana and removes hand limits, fueling massive X-spells and bombs.
- Control — Hold up counters and removal indefinitely thanks to no maximum hand size and stored mana.
- Combo — Stored colorless mana powers infinite-mana and untap loops that need a payoff.
- Spellslinger — Stockpile draw and burn/X-damage spells to dump on a single explosive turn.
