Kura, the Boundless Sky
The Commander
Flying, deathtouch
When Kura dies, choose one —
• Search your library for up to three land cards, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle.
• Create an X/X green Spirit creature token, where X is the number of lands you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Kura is a mono-green lands/ramp commander that turns dying into value—either fetching three lands to your hand or making a giant Spirit. You ramp hard, sacrifice or trade Kura repeatedly to flood the board with lands, then leverage that mana and land count to overwhelm the table with huge creatures and landfall payoffs.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage and ramp every time Kura dies
- Cheap, evasive 4/4 flying deathtouch that trades up against anything
- Synergizes with sacrifice outlets and reanimation/recursion for repeatable value
- Mono-green consistency and access to the best ramp in the format
Weaknesses
- Mono-green means no removal flexibility, no interaction with the stack, and weak board wipes
- Relies on Kura repeatedly dying, which can be slow if you lack sacrifice outlets
- No evasion or protection for the Spirit tokens beyond raw size
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate stopping recursion loops
Key Cards
- Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet to kill Kura on demand for value while generating ramp mana.
- Phyrexian Altar — Sacrifices Kura at instant speed for mana, enabling repeated death triggers if you can recur him.
- Sword of the Animist — Equips Kura's evasive body to ramp lands onto the battlefield each attack.
- Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay the lands Kura fetches and abuse sacrificed/fetch lands for value.
- Field of the Dead — Rewards the high land count Kura generates by flooding the board with Zombie tokens.
- Eternal Witness — Returns Kura from the graveyard to recast and re-trigger his death ability.
- Ramunap Excavator — Lands-matters engine that recurs sacrificed and fetched lands for relentless value.
Upgrade Path
Add reliable sacrifice outlets (Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer) and recursion (Eternal Witness, Ramunap Excavator) to loop Kura's death trigger for repeatable value. Lean into payoffs that scale with land count—Field of the Dead, Scapeshift, Craterhoof Behemoth, Ghalta—and accelerate with Cultivate, Nature's Lore, and Boundless Realms. Top-end mana sinks like Helix Pinnacle or an X-spell engine convert your land glut into a fast clock.

Win Conditions
- ▸Beat down with a massive X/X Spirit token plus other green fatties
- ▸Field of the Dead and landfall flooding the board with tokens
- ▸Craterhoof Behemoth / overrun effects for a lethal alpha strike
- ▸Grinding incremental ramp into oversized threats opponents can't answer
Archetypes
- Lands / Landfall — Kura's land-fetch mode and the Spirit token scaling off land count reward stacking lands and landfall triggers.
- Ramp / Big Mana — Constant access to lands fuels giant creatures and mana sinks that bury opponents.
- Aristocrats-lite — Sacrifice outlets turn Kura into a repeatable value engine you can recur and re-sac.
- Stompy — The big Spirit token plus green fatties close games with raw evasive and trampling power.
