Reki, the History of Kamigawa
The Commander
Whenever you cast a legendary spell, draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Reki turns your deck into a legendary-heavy 'goodstuff' pile where casting legendary creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts refills your hand. You ramp early, deploy a critical mass of legends to draw cards every turn, and grind opponents out of resources before overwhelming the board with superior card advantage.
Strengths
- Repeatable, low-effort card draw that scales with how legend-dense your deck is
- Mono-green ramp lets you out-mana the table and chain multiple legendary spells per turn
- Legendary creatures are individually powerful, giving high floor on every draw
- Recasts itself cheaply at 3 mana, and Reki triggers off your own commander-style spells
Weaknesses
- Mono-green means no interaction with the stack and limited removal
- Reki only draws on cast, so being countered or having Reki removed shuts off the engine
- Slow to come online compared to dedicated combo decks
- Legendary clutter can create awkward hands and the legend rule punishes duplicates
Key Cards
- Yisan, the Wanderer Bard — Tutors legendary creatures directly onto the battlefield, chaining Reki draws and ramp.
- Selvala, Heart of the Wilds — Explosive ramp that fuels multiple legendary casts per turn for repeated Reki triggers.
- Cradle, Gaea's Cradle — Generates massive mana from your wide board of legends to refuel and storm off.
- Heroic Intervention — Cheap protection that shields Reki and your board from wraths and targeted removal.
- Kamahl, Heart of Krosa — Turns your lands into a lethal army and pumps the whole team for a green finish.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the legend density so nearly every nonland card triggers Reki, and add fast mana like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and the green dorks. Include protection (Heroic Intervention, Veil of Summer-style effects via Allosaurus Shepherd) and a clean combo finish such as Selvala + Temur Sabertooth into Walking Ballista to convert card advantage into a deterministic win.

Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelming the board with a critical mass of powerful legendary creatures and beating down
- ▸Craterhoof Behemoth or Kamahl, Heart of Krosa alpha strike off a wide board
- ▸Infinite mana loops (e.g., Selvala/Temur Sabertooth) feeding a green outlet like Walking Ballista or Helix Pinnacle
- ▸Grinding opponents out via overwhelming card advantage and superior threats
Archetypes
- Legendary Tribal Goodstuff — Reki rewards packing the deck with powerful legends, drawing a card off each cast.
- Ramp Midrange — Mono-green acceleration lets you deploy and chain legendary threats faster than the table.
- Combo — Card advantage and big mana enable engine pieces like Temur Sabertooth loops and infinite mana sinks.
