Sharae of Numbing Depths
The Commander
When Sharae enters, tap target creature an opponent controls and put a stun counter on it. (If a permanent with a stun counter would become untapped, remove one from it instead.)
Whenever you tap one or more untapped creatures your opponents control, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Sharae turns tapping down opponents' creatures into a card-advantage engine and a soft-Stax prison. You stall the board with stun counters and mass-tap effects while drawing extra cards each turn, then grind out a win with control elements or assemble a tap-based combo or a wide finisher.
Strengths
- Repeatable card draw from any tap effect, refueling a controlling shell
- Stun counters and tappers double as removal-light interaction, keeping creatures locked down
- UW gives access to elite board wipes, counterspells, and protection
- Pairs naturally with combo pieces and pillow-fort effects to dominate the board
Weaknesses
- Draw trigger only fires once per turn, capping the explosiveness
- Relies on opponents having creatures to tap—stumbles against artifact/enchantment or spell-based decks
- Sharae herself does little offense; can be a slow, reactive durdle deck
- Vulnerable to commander hate and being raced by fast aggro before the lock comes online
Key Cards
- Icy Manipulator — Repeatable artifact tapper that triggers Sharae's draw every turn while locking down a threat.
- Merfolk Trickster — Flash tapper that disables a blocker or attacker and refills your hand at instant speed.
- Sleep — Taps your opponents' whole board, drawing a card and enabling a wide alpha strike or two-turn lock.
- Opposition — Lets you tap creatures repeatedly to lock the board while triggering Sharae each turn.
- Kismet — Forces opponents' permanents to enter tapped, synergizing with your tap-down soft lock.
- Smothering Tithe — Premier ramp/value engine that fuels your control plan and combo turns.
- Intruder Alarm — Combo-enabling untap engine that turns repeated tapping into game-ending loops.
Upgrade Path
Add reliable repeatable tappers (Icy Manipulator, Opposition, Derevi-style effects) and untap loops (Intruder Alarm, Kiora's Follower) to convert Sharae's draw into inevitability or combo kills. Tighten the mana with fast rocks and Smothering Tithe, and shore up your defensive shell with premium counters (Swan Song, Fierce Guardianship) and board wipes (Supreme Verdict, Cyclonic Rift). Trim slow durdle pieces for proactive win conditions so the deck doesn't stall after locking the board.
