Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor
The Commander
Flying, deathtouch
Other Faeries you control get +1/+1.
Whenever another Faerie you control dies, you draw a card and you lose 1 life.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with cheap evasive Faeries buffed by Tegwyll's anthem, then turn every dead Faerie into a card via the draw trigger. You grind out value through token swarms and sacrifice loops, refilling your hand while chipping in for flying damage, eventually overwhelming the table with a wide, hard-to-block air force or comboing off with aristocrats payoffs.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage engine that rewards trading and sacrificing Faeries
- Anthem effect makes a swarm of 1/1 fliers into a real evasive clock
- Cheap 3-mana commander with flying and deathtouch keeps it relevant on its own
- Dimir colors give premium removal, counterspells, and recursion to protect the engine
Weaknesses
- Heavy reliance on the commander; without Tegwyll the deck loses its anthem and draw engine
- Self-inflicted life loss can add up against aggro or punish over-sacrificing
- Board wipes are devastating to a token-based strategy
- Faerie tribal lacks the raw power of top-tier tribes, so the deck can stall against faster combo decks
Key Cards
- Bitterblossom — Generates a Faerie token every turn, fueling both the anthem and the death-trigger draw engine.
- Spellstutter Sprite — A repeatable counterspell on a Faerie body that scales with your tribal board.
- Brago, King Eternal — Blinks your Faeries and ETB-value creatures while pushing evasive damage, though primarily a flicker enabler in similar shells—use sparingly.
- Skullclamp — Turns your buffed Faeries into card-draw machines, doubling down on Tegwyll's death trigger.
- Zulaport Cutthroat — Converts every dying Faerie into table-wide life loss, building a drain win alongside the draws.
Upgrade Path
Add a sacrifice-outlet plus token-doubler engine like Skullclamp, Ashnod's Altar, and Pitiless Plunderer to loop Faerie deaths for infinite or near-infinite value. Tighten the mana with fast rocks and untapped duals, and include Cryptic Command, Force of Negation, and targeted removal to protect Tegwyll. For a true combo finish, lean into Blood Artist/Bastion of Remembrance loops fueled by repeatable token makers.

Win Conditions
Archetypes
- Faerie Tribal — Tegwyll's anthem and death-draw directly reward a board full of Faeries.
- Aristocrats — The death trigger pairs with sacrifice outlets and drain payoffs to grind value and damage.
- Tokens — Token generators like Bitterblossom feed the anthem and the card-draw engine cheaply.
- Tempo Control — Dimir flash Faeries and counters let you disrupt opponents while building a flying clock.
