The Commander
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter.)
I — Draw cards equal to the greatest power among creatures you control.
II — Earthbend X, where X is the number of cards in your hand. That land becomes an Island in addition to its other types.
III — Exile this Saga, then return it to the battlefield transformed under your control.
Lands you control have trample and hexproof.
: Add X mana of any one color, where X is the greatest power among creatures you control.
Guide
Gameplan
You start with The Legend of Kyoshi as a Saga: chapter I draws cards equal to your biggest creature's power, chapter II Earthbends a land into a huge creature based on your hand size, and chapter III flips it into Avatar Kyoshi. As the Avatar she gives your lands trample and hexproof and taps for a flood of any-color mana equal to your greatest power, letting you ramp into and recast threats. You win by going tall with big green beaters and animated lands while refilling your hand off power-based draw.
Strengths
- Power-based card draw turns one fatty into a steady stream of cards
- Earthbend creates resilient, hexproof, trampling land-creatures that dodge most removal
- The Avatar side is an explosive mana engine, tapping for huge any-color mana
- Lives in the command zone, so the value resets every time you recast it
- Mono-green consistency and access to elite ramp and recursion
Weaknesses
- Slow start: it takes three turns of upkeeps to flip without acceleration
- Power-based payoffs whiff if your board is wiped or you have no big creature
- Mono-green struggles with interaction, especially countermagic and instant-speed answers
- Reliant on a vulnerable saga before the hexproof Avatar comes online
- Board wipes set you back hard since the whole engine keys off creatures you control
Key Cards
- Ghalta, Primal Hunger — A cheap, enormous power dump that maximizes Saga draw and Avatar mana output.
- Doubling Season — Doubles lore counters to fast-forward the Saga and doubles +1/+1 counters from Earthbend.
- Hardened Scales — Buffs every Earthbend, snowballing your animated lands into massive threats.
- Cultivate — Stocks your hand and lands so chapter II Earthbends a meaningful creature.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your power-dependent board from the wipes that would shut the deck off.
- Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider — Doubles both lore counters and counter placement while slowing opponents' counters.
- Kamahl, Fist of Krosa — Animates and pumps all your lands to pair with Kyoshi's trample and hexproof.
Upgrade Path
Add proliferate and counter-doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Vorinclex) plus lore acceleration to flip the Saga faster and inflate Earthbend. Lean into reliable big-power creatures (Ghalta, End-Raze Forerunners, Craterhoof Behemoth) and protection (Heroic Intervention, Tamiyo's Safekeeping) so wipes don't reset your engine. Top-end mana sinks like Finale of Devastation or Genesis Wave convert the Avatar's explosive mana into immediate wins.
