Yisan, the Wanderer Bard
The Commander
,
, Put a verse counter on Yisan: Search your library for a creature card with mana value equal to the number of verse counters on Yisan, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
Guide
Gameplan
Yisan is a mono-green toolbox engine: each turn you pay and tap to add a verse counter, tutoring a creature with mana value equal to the verse count directly onto the battlefield. You climb the verse curve to assemble ramp, value, and combo pieces in a precise order, snowballing into either an overwhelming board or a deterministic loop.
Strengths
- Repeatable, untargeted creature tutoring straight to the battlefield every turn
- Lets you build a toolbox deck with one-of silver bullets fetched on demand
- Resilient engine that can rebuild after wraths and grind value in long games
- Enables tight, scripted combo lines by fetching pieces at exact mana values
Weaknesses
- Telegraphs your plan and is an obvious removal/tap-down magnet
- Slow without untap support since it activates only once per turn at sorcery speed
- Mono-green means little interaction and no protection from counters or stack tricks
- Vulnerable to graveyard/exile hate and stax pieces that punish creature ETBs or tutoring
Key Cards
- Seedborn Muse — Untaps Yisan every turn so you can fetch multiple creatures across a turn cycle.
- Quick Sliver — A 1-drop that lets you activate Yisan at instant speed for explosive end-of-turn tutoring.
- Wirewood Symbiote — Bounces an Elf to untap Yisan for a second activation each turn, accelerating the verse climb.
- Temur Sabertooth — Untaps Yisan via creature bounce and protects key pieces from removal.
- Birthing Pod — A redundant creature-chaining engine that complements Yisan's curve-climbing toolbox.
- Concordant Crossroads — Gives fetched creatures haste so combo and beatdown pieces act immediately.
Upgrade Path
Add more untap enablers (Seedborn Muse, Wirewood Symbiote, Temur Sabertooth, Quick Sliver) and haste sources so Yisan generates multiple tutors per turn cycle. Tighten the curve with one strong creature at each mana value to form a deterministic combo chain, then back it with fast mana like Gaea's Cradle, Priest of Titania, and Cradle of Vitality. Include protection (Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves) since Yisan is fragile and central to the deck.

Win Conditions
- ▸Infinite untap loops (e.g., Yisan plus untappers fetching mana dorks) feeding a mana sink like Walking Ballista or Craterhoof beatdown
- ▸Craterhoof Behemoth or overrun effect after assembling a wide creature board
- ▸Combo kills via fetched pieces such as Triskelion/Mikaeus or Devoted Druid lines
- ▸Grinding incremental value and hatebears until opponents are locked out, then attacking
Archetypes
- Toolbox/Value — Yisan fetches the right creature for any situation, rewarding singleton silver bullets at every mana value.
- Combo — Precise MV tutoring assembles infinite untap and mana loops to win on the spot.
- Elfball/Ramp — Green creature ramp accelerates verse activations and untap-enables fast climbs.
- Stax/Hatebears — Yisan can find taxing creatures like hatebears to lock opponents while you grind value.
