Anara, Wolvid Familiar
The Commander
During your turn, commanders you control have indestructible. (Effects that say "destroy" don't destroy them. A creature with indestructible can't be destroyed by damage.)
Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)
Guide
Gameplan
Anara is a support partner that grants your commanders indestructible during your turn, protecting your real threat from board wipes, combat, and removal while you swing. You pair her with an aggressive Partner creature (often Voltron or value-engine) and ride that second commander to victory. Turn to turn you ramp, suit up your other commander, and attack into open boards knowing your attacker can't die on your turn.
Strengths
- Free, color-light protection for a Partner commander against destroy effects and combat damage
- Enables aggressive attacks since your other commander survives blocks during your turn
- Cheap to deploy at 4 mana and a reasonable 4/4 body
- Flexible Partner slot lets you tailor the second commander to any green-compatible strategy
Weaknesses
- Protection only lasts during your turn—opponents can kill your commander on their turns with removal
- Indestructible doesn't stop exile, -X/-X, bounce, sacrifice, or counterspells
- Mono-green color identity if run alone limits answers; needs a Partner to add reach
- Anara herself does little if your other commander is removed or in the command zone
Key Cards
- Halvar, God of Battle — As an aggressive white Partner-adjacent threat... actually pair with a Partner that scales with indestructible combat.
- Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh — Cheap Partner whose tiny body becomes a fearless Voltron attacker once indestructible during combat.
- Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist — Partner that moves your equipment onto an indestructible attacker for a resilient Voltron plan.
- Swiftfoot Boots — Adds hexproof and haste to cover the gaps Anara's indestructible leaves open.
- Heroic Intervention — Extends indestructible and hexproof to your whole board on opponents' turns when Anara can't help.
Upgrade Path
Choose a high-impact Partner like Rograkh or Tana to maximize the indestructible-attacker payoff, then load on cheap protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves) and instant-speed safety nets (Heroic Intervention, Tamiyo's Safekeeping) to cover opponents' turns. Add ramp like Sol Ring and Three Visits to deploy threats early, and tutors such as Stoneforge Mystic or Steelshaper's Gift if going Voltron to assemble your equipment package fast.
