Ayula, Queen Among Bears
The Commander
Whenever another Bear you control enters, choose one —
• Put two +1/+1 counters on target Bear.
• Target Bear you control fights target creature you don't control.
Guide
Gameplan
Ayula is a mono-green tribal deck built around the surprisingly deep pool of Bears (and bear-makers). Every Bear that enters triggers Ayula, letting you snowball +1/+1 counters or fight away threats. Flood the board with bears, pump them tall, and beat down or go wide with anthem effects.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that's hard to answer permanently and immediately impacts the board
- Built-in removal via the fight ability keeps the board clear
- Counter synergies snowball quickly with proliferate and doublers
- Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and easy mana
Weaknesses
- Bear tribe is shallow and many payoffs are mediocre creatures
- Mono-green lacks interaction with the stack and struggles vs. flyers/control
- Fight ability requires you to control a Bear and can lose your creature to deathtouch/big blockers
- Heavy reliance on Ayula's triggers makes it vulnerable to board wipes and removal-light recovery
- Can be outpaced by faster combo decks
Key Cards
- Ayula's Influence — Turns excess lands into 2/2 Bear tokens, fueling Ayula triggers repeatedly for value.
- Hardened Scales — Amplifies the +1/+1 counter mode, turning two counters into three and snowballing fast.
- Doubling Season — Doubles both counters and token-making Bears, dramatically accelerating the board.
- Cloudstone Curio — Bounce and replay cheap Bears to retrigger Ayula for arbitrary counters or fights.
- Grizzly Bears — Iconic vanilla Bear that's a cheap trigger enabler and counter target.
- Rishkar, Peema Renegade — Adds counters and turns your bears into mana dorks for explosive turns.
Upgrade Path
Lean into token generation and counter doublers (Ayula's Influence, Doubling Season, Branching Evolution) plus proliferate to make Ayula's triggers exponential. Add a Cloudstone Curio loop with cheap Bears and cost reducers for a compact combo finish, and round out with Craterhoof Behemoth or Triumph of the Hordes as a go-wide closer. Improve the mana with fast ramp (Sol Ring, Nature's Lore, Three Visits) and protect Ayula with Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves.

Win Conditions
- ▸Beating down with oversized, counter-stacked Bears, often with trample or evasion
- ▸Going wide with bear tokens behind anthems like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overrun
- ▸Cloudstone Curio loops generating infinite +1/+1 counters or repeated fights to clear and kill
- ▸Fighting away every blocker then swinging for lethal
Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Ayula's first mode floods bears with counters that combine with proliferate and doublers.
- Tribal Aggro — Bear typal payoffs and anthems let you go wide and beat down.
- Combo — Cloudstone Curio plus cost-reduced Bears can loop ETB triggers for unbounded counters or fights.
- Stompy/Midrange — Mono-green ramp into big counter-laden bears that fight and trample through.
