Bristly Bill, Spine Sower
The Commander
Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
: Double the number of +1/+1 counters on each creature you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Bristly Bill is a mono-green +1/+1 counters engine that drops on turn 2 and snowballs board presence through landfall. You ramp into extra land drops to scatter counters across your team, then fire off his activated ability to double everything for a lethal alpha strike. He plays as a midrange-to-aggressive counters deck that grinds incremental advantage before exploding the board.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that starts generating value immediately
- Doubling ability turns a wide board into a one-turn kill
- Mono-green gives consistent mana and access to the best ramp and counters payoffs
- Synergizes with proliferate, extra-land-drop effects, and counter doublers
Weaknesses
- Single color limits removal, card draw, and interaction
- Relies heavily on the commander staying on the battlefield to function
- Vulnerable to board wipes that erase the counter-laden team
- Doubling ability costs 5 mana and is a tempting target before it resolves
Key Cards
- Doubling Season — Doubles every counter Bristly Bill places and your token generation, accelerating the engine massively.
- Hardened Scales — Cheap turn-one play that adds extra counters every landfall trigger.
- Branching Evolution — Doubles counters added, stacking multiplicatively with Bristly Bill's own doubling activation.
- Scute Swarm — Landfall payoff that floods the board with tokens to receive and multiply counters.
- Exploration — Extra land drops mean extra landfall triggers and more counters per turn.
- Inkmoth Nexus — Turns doubled counters into a fast infect/poison kill via a manland.
Upgrade Path
Add counter multipliers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Innkeeper's Talent) and proliferate sources (Inexorable Tide, Evolution Sage) to multiply Bill's output. Lean into extra-land-drop enablers like Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Burgeoning plus fetchlands for more landfall triggers. Round out with green protection (Heroic Intervention), trample/overrun effects (Pathbreaker Ibex, Overwhelming Stampede), and fast ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits) to outpace the table.

Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — His landfall and doubling ability are a dedicated counters engine that scales with every payoff.
- Lands/Landfall — Extra land drops directly convert into board growth, rewarding ramp and land-recursion.
- Tokens — Wide token boards become enormous threats when Bill doubles all their counters at once.
- Aggro — A board of growing creatures with a built-in doubler closes games through combat damage.
