Cazur, Ruthless Stalker
The Commander
Partner with Ukkima, Stalking Shadow (When this creature enters, target player may put Ukkima into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.
Guide
Gameplan
Cazur (usually paired with Ukkima) builds a green-black counters-matter board where connecting in combat snowballs your creatures into game-ending threats. You ramp early, deploy efficient attackers and counter doublers, then push through damage to grow your team or assemble commander-damage/drain combos. Ukkima's recursion and ping turn chip damage into a reliable clock and an aristocrats engine.
Strengths
- Every combat hit permanently grows your creatures, generating runaway board advantage
- Ukkima's tutor-to-hand and recursion make the pair resilient and grindy
- Strong synergy with proliferate, doublers, and +1/+1 counter payoffs
- Green-black gives elite ramp, recursion, and removal
Weaknesses
- Relies on connecting in combat, so heavy go-wide blockers or fog effects slow you down
- Board wipes erase your counter investment quickly
- Slow to close if removal keeps killing your commanders
- No evasion baked in beyond Ukkima, so trample/menace must be added
Key Cards
- Ukkima, Stalking Shadow — Its partner, evasive recursion, and damage-on-attack create a near-unkillable threat that fuels combat triggers and drain.
- Doubling Season — Doubles the +1/+1 counters from combat damage, turning one connection into a massive swing.
- Branching Evolution — Cheaper counter doubler that accelerates Cazur's combat snowball.
- Hardened Scales — Adds extra counters per trigger, stacking with proliferate and doublers.
- Rampant Growth — Cheap ramp to deploy Cazur and threats ahead of curve.
- Skullclamp — Turns small or dying counter creatures into refills, especially with sacrifice synergies.
Upgrade Path
Add evasion and trample enablers (Rancor, Nylea, Keen Sense of Direction–style equipment) so combat triggers reliably land, plus more counter doublers and proliferate. Tighten the mana base with fast ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits, Nature's Lore) and tutors to find doublers, then include a finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or a sacrifice-drain package to convert the board into a clean kill.

- ▸Repeated Ukkima loops draining life and recurring threats

Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Combat damage automatically grows your team, rewarding doublers and proliferate.
- Voltron / Commander Damage — A connecting Cazur or buffed creature snowballs into lethal single-target damage.
- Aristocrats — Ukkima's recursion plus sacrifice outlets create a drain-and-rebuy engine.
- Midrange Stompy — Green-black efficient creatures and removal grind opponents down while counters accumulate.
