Esix, Fractal Bloom
The Commander
Flying
The first time you would create one or more tokens during each of your turns, you may instead choose a creature other than Esix and create that many tokens that are copies of that creature.
Guide
Gameplan
Esix turns any token-making effect into a horde of copies of your best creature: produce tokens (Scute Swarm, Chasm Skulker, any token spell) and instead get that many copies of a chosen creature. You ramp into Esix, fish out a high-impact token maker, and convert it into game-ending ETB or attack triggers, often combining into a loop.
Strengths
- Massively amplifies any token generator into copies of your strongest creature
- Flying body protects Esix and enables evasive copy armies
- Blue/green gives elite ramp, card draw, and counterspell protection
- Flexible: can copy value engines, mana dorks, or finishers depending on the board
Weaknesses
- Heavily commander-dependent; removing Esix shuts off the engine
- Only triggers on the first token creation each of your turns, limiting on-opponents'-turns plays
- Six mana and no immediate impact makes it slow to set up
- Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your token army after a big turn
Key Cards
- Scute Swarm — Each land drop replaces its copies with copies of any creature you choose, snowballing into an army.
- Ophidian Eye — Enchant a token-copyable creature to draw cards equal to combat damage from a copied swarm.
- Avenger of Zendikar — Its many Plant tokens can instead become copies of a bomb, instantly winning.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Copy it with Esix to overload the board with trample and lethal pumps in one swing.
- Doubling Season — Doubles tokens before Esix converts them, multiplying copies of your chosen creature.
- Cackling Counterpart — A cheap token maker that becomes any creature copy, and has flashback for two uses.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and token doublers (Mana Crypt, Doubling Season, Parallel Lives) plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to keep Esix online. Build toward dedicated combos: copy Dockside Extortionist off a token maker for infinite mana, or pair token engines with Craterhoof for reliable one-turn kills. Tighten the curve and add tutors (Worldly Tutor, Mystic Tutor) to find your best copy target consistently.
