Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres
The Commander
When Ezuri enters, you may pay . If you do, proliferate twice.
Whenever you proliferate, draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Build a Simic counters engine where every proliferate trigger draws cards, snowballing into an unbeatable card-advantage lead. Drop counter sources (planeswalkers, +1/+1 counters, energy, charge counters) early, then chain proliferate effects each turn to refuel your hand while growing a wide board. You close by overwhelming with massive counter-laden creatures or comboing off the draw engine.
Strengths
- Turns proliferate into raw card advantage, making your engine self-sustaining
- Excellent at grinding out long games and out-resourcing the table
- Flexible counter synergies: +1/+1, planeswalker loyalty, energy, charge, even infect
- Blue/green gives premier ramp, card draw, and protection for the commander
Weaknesses
- Needs counters already on the battlefield for proliferate to matter
- Commander does little the turn it lands without backup counter sources
- Vulnerable to heavy graveyard hate is irrelevant, but stax/taxes slow the engine
- Can be slow and durdle-prone, losing to fast combo without interaction
Key Cards
- Inexorable Tide — Proliferates on every spell cast, triggering Ezuri's draw repeatedly for explosive card flow.
- Evolution Sage — Proliferates each landfall, giving you multiple Ezuri draws per turn cheaply.
- Doubling Season — Doubles counters and tokens, supercharging every proliferate-based payoff and planeswalker.
- Karn's Bastion — A repeatable land-based proliferate source that draws a card every activation.
- Hydra's Growth — Doubles a creature's +1/+1 counters each upkeep, scaling absurdly with proliferate.
- Fathom Mage — Draws on each counter placed and grows huge, stacking advantage alongside Ezuri.
Upgrade Path
Add free or cheap repeatable proliferate engines (Inexorable Tide, Evolution Sage, Karn's Bastion) and untappers like Pemmin's Aura plus mana doublers to build toward infinite proliferate-draw loops. Tighten the mana base with fast rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone) and add interaction (Cyclonic Rift, Swan Song, Pongify) so the engine survives. For a combo finish, include outlets like Walking Ballista or Thassa's Oracle with a way to deck yourself safely.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelming the board with oversized +1/+1 counter creatures and trampling in
- ▸Ultimate planeswalkers (e.g., game-ending ults) accelerated by proliferate
- ▸Drawing into and assembling an infinite proliferate/draw combo to win on the spot
- ▸Infect or poison kills via proliferating poison counters
Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Ezuri grows creatures with each proliferate while drawing cards to refill the board.
- Superfriends — Proliferate adds loyalty to planeswalkers and draws cards, ulting them ahead of schedule.
- Combo — Free or cheap repeatable proliferate loops with mana rocks/untappers can draw your whole deck.
- Control — The relentless card draw fuels counterspells and removal to lock down the table.
