Frodo Baggins
The Commander
Whenever Frodo Baggins or another legendary creature you control enters, the Ring tempts you.
As long as Frodo Baggins is your Ring-bearer, it must be blocked if able.
Guide
Gameplan
Frodo is a 2-mana GW Ring-tempting engine that snowballs your Ring of Power emblem by flickering or recasting legendary creatures. You assemble a critical mass of legends and value engines, climb the Ring's four temptation levels for card draw and evasion, then close with a wide go-wide attack or a buffed Ring-bearer that must be blocked.
Strengths
- Cheap, repeatable Ring temptation that gives card advantage, an attack trigger, and protection for free
- Thrives in a tribal-legendary shell where every body advances the Ring engine
- Frodo's forced-block ability turns him into a fantastic sacrifice-trap or trample/deathtouch enabler
- Strong GW value base with reliable lifegain, ramp, and token generation
Weaknesses
- Frodo is fragile at 2 toughness and a high-priority removal target
- The Ring's 'must be blocked' on a low-power Frodo can backfire without trample or pump
- Lacks built-in evasion or interaction in two colors that struggle with countermagic and forced removal
- Engine is slow to threaten lethal without a dedicated payoff or combat package
Key Cards
- Aragorn, the Uniter — A premier GW legend that fuels Ring temptations and rewards a multicolor legendary board with massive value.
- Conclave Mentor — Pairs with token and counter strategies to amplify the wide boards Frodo's legions create.
- Cloudstone Curio — Repeatedly bounce and replay legendary creatures to tempt the Ring multiple times per turn.
- Smothering Tithe — Generates the heavy mana needed to chain out legends and recast bounced creatures.
- Akroma's Will — Gives Frodo or your team trample, evasion, and protection to convert the forced-block clause into lethal.
- Esper Sentinel — A cheap legendary-friendly card engine that rewards the artifact-heavy, value-oriented GW build.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the curve with more impactful legendary creatures and cheap flicker/bounce engines like Cloudstone Curio and Conjurer's Closet to maximize Ring triggers per turn. Add a clean combat finisher package (Akroma's Will, Craterhoof Behemoth, Overrun) plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Swiftfoot Boots to keep Frodo alive. Round out with fast mana such as Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, and efficient ramp to deploy multiple legends ahead of schedule.

- ▸Connecting with a pumped, trample/evasive Ring-bearer that must be blocked into your other threats
- ▸Grinding incremental card advantage from Ring temptations until you overwhelm the table
Archetypes
- Legendary Tribal — Every legendary creature entering tempts the Ring, so loading up on legends turns each cast into an engine trigger.
- Blink/Flicker — Repeatedly flickering legendary creatures re-triggers Ring temptation and ETB value.
- Tokens/Go-Wide — GW's token makers combine with the Ring's draw and protection to flood the board for a wide alpha strike.
- Voltron — Frodo's forced-block plus pump and evasion can pressure single opponents through combat.
