Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant
The Commander
Trample
When Ghalta enters, put any number of creature cards from your hand onto the battlefield.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp into Ghalta as fast as possible, then dump your whole hand of fatties onto the battlefield for free when she enters, instantly overwhelming the table with a trampling army. From there you crash in with oversized green beaters and finish through chip damage, doublers, or overrun effects. Reload after a board wipe by recasting Ghalta and emptying your hand again.
Strengths
- Massive tempo and mana swing: free-casting multiple creatures from hand bypasses their costs entirely
- Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and biggest creatures in the format
- Trample makes Ghalta hard to chump and pressures life totals immediately
- Self-contained payoff—she rebuilds your board single-handedly after wraths
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on having a full hand of creatures when Ghalta lands; an empty hand makes her a vanilla beater
- Spot removal or bounce on Ghalta before her trigger resolves wastes your turn
- Mono-green struggles with interaction, lacking counterspells and efficient removal
- Vulnerable to board wipes since you commit everything at once
Key Cards
- Cultivate — Cheap ramp and fixing that accelerates you toward an early Ghalta.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — The premier finisher—dump it for free, then it gives your army trample and a game-ending pump.
- Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger — A huge creature you can free-cast that doubles your mana and starves opponents.
- Greater Good — Turns your oversized board into massive card draw to keep refueling Ghalta's trigger.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your committed board and Ghalta from wraths and targeted removal.
- Defense of the Heart — Tutors fatties directly onto the battlefield to set up the dump or just win on its own.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the curve so your hand is reliably full of impactful creatures when Ghalta enters, prioritizing bombs like Craterhoof Behemoth, Vorinclex, and Avenger of Zendikar over filler. Add fast ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Nature's Lore, mana dorks) to deploy her on turns 4-5, and include protection like Heroic Intervention and Snake Umbra-style insurance. Tutors such as Defense of the Heart, Worldly Tutor, and Green Sun's Zenith make the explosive turns consistent.
