Gisa and Geralf
The Commander
When Gisa and Geralf enters, mill four cards.
Once during each of your turns, you may cast a Zombie creature spell from your graveyard.
Guide
Gameplan
Fill the graveyard with self-mill, then grind out value by recasting Zombies from your graveyard once each turn while building a wide undead army. You win through repeated death triggers, swarm aggression, or a single big mill/drain payoff. The deck plays a slow-but-relentless attrition game, leveraging tribal synergies and recursion to out-value the table.
Strengths
- Built-in graveyard recursion lets you reuse value Zombies every turn
- Deep, well-supported Zombie tribal pool in Dimir colors
- Self-mill fuels reanimation and graveyard payoffs
- Strong resilience to board wipes thanks to constant recursion
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on the graveyard, so exile-based hate is devastating
- Can be slow and grindy against fast combo decks
- Many Zombie payoffs are mana-hungry and clunky
- Vulnerable if the commander is repeatedly removed or kept off the board
Key Cards
- Gravecrawler — Recurs endlessly from the graveyard each turn as a free sacrifice fodder engine.
- Diregraf Captain — Anthem plus a drain trigger whenever a Zombie dies, turning recursion into reach.
- Undead Augur — Turns every Zombie death into card draw, refilling your hand off recursion loops.
- Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver — Generates Zombie tokens and card draw, an ideal partner engine for the tribe.
- Cryptbreaker — Makes Zombies and converts excess cards into draw, smoothing every game.
- Rooftop Storm — Lets you cast every Zombie for free, supercharging the commander's recursion ability.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and recursion enablers like Rooftop Storm and Gravecrawler loops, then tighten the sacrifice-outlet/payoff core (Phyrexian Altar, Viscera Seer, Diregraf Captain, Undead Augur) to assemble drain combos. Improve interaction with Dimir staples like Cyclonic Rift, Counterspell, and targeted removal, and protect your graveyard with reanimation backups. Cut clunky high-cost Zombies for efficient lords and value engines to lower your curve and increase consistency.
