Jolene, the Plunder Queen
The Commander
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with Treasure tokens by encouraging combat (everyone makes Treasures when attacking, and your own production is doubled), then convert that ramp into oversized threats, big X-spells, or sacrifice payoffs. You build a mana advantage every turn while Jolene herself can balloon into a one-shot kill via her counter ability. Win through commander damage, explosive ramp into haymakers, or Treasure-fueled aristocrats/storm finishes.
Strengths
- Doubles all your Treasure creation for absurd ramp and fixing
- Turns every attack from any player into resources, including political incentives
- Jolene's counter ability makes her a fast voltron clock with trample support
- Excellent in artifact-sacrifice and 'sacrifice an artifact' synergy shells
- Rewards aggressive multiplayer pods, so the table fuels your engine
Weaknesses
- Treasures are fragile to artifact wipes (Vandalblast, Bane of Progress)
- Hands opponents Treasures too, occasionally accelerating them
- Jolene dies to spot removal, resetting her counters
- Can fold to flyers/evasion since her voltron plan needs trample or unblocked attacks
- Lacks built-in card advantage—can run out of gas without engines
Key Cards
- Smothering Tithe — Stacks with Jolene's doubler to generate piles of Treasures off opponents' draws.
- Dockside Extortionist — Enters making double Treasures off artifacts and enchantments for explosive mana bursts.
- Mayhem Devil — Pings opponents every time you crack a Treasure, turning ramp into a wincon.
- Reckless Fireweaver — Each Treasure entering drains the table, converting your doubled tokens into damage.
- Pitiless Plunderer — Creature deaths make Treasures, which double, fueling sacrifice loops.
- Goldspan Dragon — Doubles your Treasure value and makes attacking-triggered tokens worth two mana each.
- Xorn — Another Treasure doubler that compounds with Jolene for runaway mana.
- Krark-Clan Ironworks — Sacrifices Treasures for mana to enable explosive combo and storm turns.
Upgrade Path
Lean into Treasure doublers (Goldspan Dragon, Xorn) and payoffs (Mayhem Devil, Reckless Fireweaver, Disciple of the Vault) so ramp becomes a direct kill. Add fast mana and tutors like Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, and Gamble, plus Krark-Clan Ironworks/Dockside Extortionist loops for combo finishes. Tighten interaction with cheap removal and protect Jolene with Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to keep your engine and voltron clock online.
