Kamahl, Heart of Krosa
The Commander
At the beginning of combat on your turn, creatures you control get +3/+3 and gain trample until end of turn.
: Until end of turn, target land you control becomes a 1/1 Elemental creature with vigilance, indestructible, and haste. It's still a land.
Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)
Guide
Gameplan
Kamahl turns a wide board into a lethal alpha strike, pumping your whole team +3/+3 with trample every combat while his land-animation ability gives you indestructible attackers and a mana sink. You ramp hard in mono-green, flood the board with creatures or tokens, then swing for overwhelming damage or trample over blockers.
Strengths
- Anthem-on-a-stick gives a repeatable +3/+3 trample buff every combat, scaling brutally with go-wide boards
- Land animation provides indestructible, hasty attackers that dodge most board wipes
- Mono-green gives best-in-class ramp to reach his 8 mana value and beyond
- Partner lets you pair him with another commander for added value or a second color
Weaknesses
- 8 mana value makes him slow and a big tempo loss if repeatedly killed
- Mono-green struggles with removal, card advantage, and answering combo/flyers
- Highly reliant on having a board; sweepers before combat can reset your whole plan
- No evasion beyond trample, vulnerable to fogs, stax on attacking, and pillow-fort decks
Key Cards
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Stacks with Kamahl's pump for an instant game-ending overrun across your whole board.
- Cathars' Crusade — Compounds with tokens and Kamahl's combat trigger to make an unblockable, ever-growing army.
- Avenger of Zendikar — Floods the board with plant tokens that Kamahl immediately turns into lethal trampling threats.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your developed board from the sweepers that are Kamahl's biggest weakness.
- Cultivate — Cheap ramp and fixing that helps you cast an 8-drop commander on curve.
- Doubling Season — Doubles your token output, feeding Kamahl's mass-pump strategy explosively.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and green dorks (Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise) to deploy Kamahl ahead of curve, then load up on overrun-style finishers (Pathbreaker Ibex, Triumph of the Hordes) for redundant kills. Lean into protection (Heroic Intervention, Tyvar's Stand) and recursion (Eternal Witness, Green Sun's Zenith) to survive sweepers, and consider a strong partner like Tymna or Thrasios to patch green's card-advantage and color weaknesses.

Win Conditions
- ▸Alpha strike with Kamahl's +3/+3 trample buff plus an overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth
- ▸Going wide with tokens that all become lethal trampling attackers
- ▸Animating lands into indestructible attackers to grind through sweepers and chip in
- ▸Voltron-style finish by animating a single land and stacking pumps and trample
Archetypes
- Tokens / Go-Wide — His +3/+3 trample anthem turns dozens of small tokens into a lethal swing.
- Stompy / Big Creatures — Layering his buff atop already-large creatures pushes massive trample damage.
- Lands — His animation ability turns lands into indestructible beaters and a reliable mana sink.
- +1/+1 Counters — Pairs with counter doublers and Kamahl's pump to snowball board states.
