Keruga, the Macrosage
The Commander
Companion — Your starting deck contains only cards with mana value 3 or greater and land cards. (If this card is your chosen companion, you may put it into your hand from outside the game for as a sorcery.)
When Keruga enters, draw a card for each other permanent you control with mana value 3 or greater.
Guide
Gameplan
Keruga is a Simic midrange value engine that floods the board with expensive permanents, then cashes them in for a massive card draw burst when Keruga enters or re-enters. You ramp into a sequence of three-plus mana permanents, blink or recast Keruga to refill your hand, and grind opponents out with superior card advantage before closing with big threats. Built around the companion restriction (no cards under MV3 except lands), the deck plays as a high-curve goodstuff control-value pile.
Strengths
- Enormous card advantage from Keruga's enter trigger, refillable via blink and recursion
- Companion gives you an extra card in every game without taking a deck slot
- Simic ramp lets you deploy expensive permanents ahead of curve
- Resilient grind plan that outvalues attrition-based opponents
Weaknesses
- The MV3+ deck restriction bans cheap interaction like Swords to Plowshares, Counterspell, and Sol Ring
- Slow starts and clunky curves vulnerable to fast combo and aggro
- No native removal or protection in the command zone
- Relies on permanents already in play to make Keruga's trigger worthwhile
Key Cards
- Keruga, the Macrosage — Your card-advantage engine; every recast or blink draws a fistful of cards off your permanents.
- Ghostly Flicker — Reblinks Keruga (and value ETBs) to repeatedly trigger the draw, and it's MV3 so it's legal.
- Roaming Throne — Doubles Keruga's enter trigger for absurd card draw and pumps your Dinosaur tribe.
- Cultivate — MV3 ramp/fixing that respects the companion restriction and accelerates your high curve.
- Eternal Witness — MV3 recursion to rebuy blink spells, ramp, and Keruga itself for endless value.
- Rashmi, Eternities Crafter — MV4 engine that turns your naturally expensive spells into extra cards and free casts.
Upgrade Path
Lean into blink loops with Deadeye Navigator, Conjurer's Closet, and Roaming Throne to weaponize Keruga's draw every turn, then add MV3+ interaction like Beast Within, Cyclonic Rift, and Mystic Confluence to cover the lack of cheap answers. Tighten the mana with MV3 ramp (Cultivate, Wood Elves, Skyshroud Claim) and adopt a compact win like Thassa's Oracle plus card-draw self-mill or a Craterhoof Behemoth finish. If you abandon the companion rule, the deck gains access to the full cheap-interaction suite but loses the free card—stay companion for consistency.

Archetypes

- Blink — Flicker effects re-trigger Keruga's draw and your other ETB permanents for snowballing advantage.
- Control — Card advantage plus MV3+ counters and removal let you stabilize and win the long game.
