Korvold, Fae-Cursed King

Mana value5EDHREC#1,890

The Commander

Flying

Whenever Korvold enters or attacks, sacrifice another permanent.

Whenever you sacrifice a permanent, put a +1/+1 counter on Korvold and draw a card.

Guide

Gameplan

Korvold turns sacrifice into raw card advantage—every permanent you sac grows him and refills your hand. You build a sacrifice engine with cheap fodder (Treasures, tokens, dorks) and free or recursive sac outlets, looping permanents to draw deep, then close with an enormous flying Korvold or a combo finish.

Strengths

  • Generates explosive card advantage that snowballs out of control if unanswered
  • Grows into a one- or two-hit commander-damage flyer
  • Jund colors give access to elite ramp, removal, and recursion
  • Naturally synergizes with Treasure, tokens, and aristocrats packages
  • Turns board wipes and removal into fuel rather than setbacks

Weaknesses

  • Heavily commander-dependent; can feel weak when Korvold is repeatedly removed
  • Costs escalate with the commander tax after multiple deaths
  • Needs both fodder and a sac outlet online to function—can stumble on awkward draws
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate and stax on sacrifice/Treasures
  • Mana-hungry; recasting a 5-drop repeatedly is taxing

Key Cards

  • Dockside ExtortionistFloods the board with Treasures that fuel Korvold draws and explosive mana.
  • Mayhem DevilTurns every sacrifice into direct damage, enabling kills and combo finishes.
  • Goblin BombardmentA free, repeatable sac outlet that converts fodder into damage and Korvold triggers.
  • Pitiless PlundererMakes Treasures on every creature death, fueling infinite-feeling sac loops.
  • Korvold, Fae-Cursed KingThe engine itself—your card draw, counters, and finisher all in one.
  • SkullclampAdds another card-draw layer to your fodder, doubling down on advantage.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and tutors (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent) to assemble engines faster and find your sac outlets. Tighten toward a compact combo line—Pitiless Plunderer + Goblin Bombardment/free outlet + Mayhem Devil—and include protection like Heroic Intervention and recursion such as Meren or reanimation to fight removal-heavy tables.
