Krenko, Baron of Tin Street
The Commander
Haste
, Sacrifice an artifact: Put a +1/+1 counter on each Goblin you control.
Whenever an artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may pay . If you do, create a 1/1 red Goblin creature token. It gains haste until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with Goblin tokens by feeding cheap, recurring artifacts into graveyards, then pump the whole team with Krenko's counter ability before swinging for lethal. You ramp early, deploy token producers and artifact fodder, then convert a wide board into a massive haste-fueled alpha strike.
Strengths
- Doubles as both a token engine and a free anthem in one 3-mana body with haste
- Treasure and clue tokens trigger free Goblins, turning ramp into an army
- Cheap to recast, so it recovers quickly from removal
- Goes very wide very fast, threatening huge burst damage
Weaknesses
- Mono-red lacks card draw and struggles to refuel after a board wipe
- Heavily reliant on the commander; without Krenko the deck is just small Goblins
- Vulnerable to sweepers, Pyroclasm effects, and graveyard hate on its engine
- Both abilities cost mana/sacrifice, making it slower than pure Goblin aggro
Key Cards
- Krenko, Mob Boss — A second token engine that compounds Krenko, Baron's army and gives you redundant overwhelm.
- Dockside Extortionist — Generates a pile of Treasures that immediately become Goblins and ramp simultaneously.
- Goblin Bombardment — Free sacrifice outlet to turn your wide board and tokens into direct damage as a win condition and removal.
- Skullclamp — Best card advantage in the deck—draw two off every 1/1 Goblin and trigger artifact-death Goblins.
- Purphoros, God of the Forge — Each token entering pings everyone, turning Goblin floods into a noncombat kill.
- Pitiless Plunderer — Every dying Goblin makes a Treasure, fueling more sacrifices and more Goblins in a loop.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana like Sol Ring, Jeweled Lotus, and more Treasure producers (Brass's Bounty, Goldspan Dragon) to power out Krenko early and trigger artifact-death Goblins. Prioritize free sacrifice outlets and payoffs—Goblin Bombardment, Purphoros, Pitiless Plunderer, Mayhem Devil—plus card advantage in Skullclamp and Reckless Fireweaver. Round it out with anthem/overrun effects (Coat of Arms, Shared Animosity, Goblin War Drums) and protection like Heroic Intervention or Boros Charm to push through wipes.
