Guide
Gameplan
Magus Lucea Kane ramps you with her own mana ability and then doubles your biggest X spell or X ability, generating absurd value or lethal payoffs. You spend the early game building mana rocks, dorks, and untap effects, then deploy a backbreaking X spell that gets copied. The +1/+1 counter each combat is incidental upside that pairs with counter and Voltron synergies.
Strengths
- Self-contained ramp and a free spell/ability copy attached to the command zone
- Temur color identity gives access to the best ramp, card draw, and X-spell payoffs
- Copying X-cost abilities (not just spells) unlocks powerful infinite and value engines
- Built-in repeatable copy outlet that comes back even after she's removed
Weaknesses
- Heavily commander-dependent; the deck stalls without her copy effect online
- Three-color manabase plus colorless-tap ability can create awkward early hands
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate and counterspells on your single big payoff turn
- Tapping for the copy means she can't attack and is exposed to removal each turn
Key Cards
- Walking Ballista — Copying its X-cost ability or doubling its enter-the-battlefield counters with Lucea enables damage-based combo kills.
- Fireball — A classic X-burn spell that Lucea copies to hit two targets or double a player's face for lethal.
- Comet Storm — Multikicker plus a Lucea copy spreads massive damage across multiple targets or doubles a single huge bolt.
- Finale of Devastation — A copied X tutor-and-pump that fetches creatures, buffs the team, and closes games out of nowhere.
- Doubling Cube — Activating its X-free mana doubling alongside Lucea-style payoffs accelerates into giant X spells.
- Freed from the Real — Pairs with her colorless mana to untap and loop, fueling repeated copies and mana.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and untappers (Mana Vault, Seedborn Muse, Wanderer's Twig stays out—use Sol Ring, Cyclonic Rift) to fuel and reuse her copy, and tutors like Mystical Tutor and Worldly Tutor to find your payoff X spell. Lean into a tight combo line such as Walking Ballista plus mana doublers and untap effects so you're not reliant on a fragile alpha strike. Protect your payoff turn with counterspells and free interaction like Pact of Negation and Veil of Summer.
