Eshki, Temur's Roar
The Commander
Whenever you cast a creature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Eshki. If that spell's power is 4 or greater, draw a card. If that spell's power is 6 or greater, Eshki deals damage equal to Eshki's power to each opponent.
Guide
Gameplan
Eshki is a Temur midrange engine that snowballs by casting big creatures: each one grows Eshki, draws cards when power is 4+, and turns into a group-burn finisher when you cast something with power 6+. You ramp into fatties, refill your hand off of them, and eventually swing Eshki for lethal commander damage while pinging the whole table.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage and a growing threat from a single 3-mana commander
- Burns out the whole table for free when you chain large creatures
- Strong color identity for ramp, big creatures, and protection
- Snowballs quickly and can close games with commander damage
Weaknesses
- Heavily commander-dependent; removal stalls the whole engine
- Triggers only on cast, so reanimation and tokens don't grow Eshki
- Wants expensive creatures, leaving you vulnerable while ramping
- No evasion or trample built in, so big Eshki can be chump-blocked
Key Cards
- Cloudstone Curio — Lets you bounce and recast cheap big creatures to retrigger Eshki repeatedly for draws and burn.
- Quicksilver Amulet — Cheats fatties in—but note it doesn't cast them, so prioritize hard-casting power-6 threats for the trigger.
- Temur Sabertooth — Returns your creatures to hand to recast them, looping Eshki triggers and protecting key bodies.
- Garruk's Uprising — Doubles as card draw on big creatures and grants trample so a huge Eshki connects.
- Rhonas the Indomitable — Cheap, high-power body that triggers draw on cast and gives Eshki trample to push commander damage.
- Lightning Greaves — Protects your snowballing commander from removal and lets Eshki attack the turn it grows.
Upgrade Path
Add free or cheap recursion like Cloudstone Curio and Temur Sabertooth to loop high-power creatures and weaponize the burn trigger, and include consistent ramp (Cultivate, mana dorks, signets) to deploy fatties earlier. Improve protection with Lightning Greaves and Heroic Intervention, then add trample/evasion enablers like Garruk's Uprising and Rhonas to make Eshki's commander damage reliable.
