Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar
The Commander
Reach, trample
Multani gets +1/+1 for each land you control and each land card in your graveyard.
, Return two lands you control to their owner's hand: Return this card from your graveyard to your hand.
Guide
Gameplan
Multani is a mono-green Voltron beater whose power scales with lands in play and in the graveyard, easily reaching 20+ and threatening commander-damage kills. You ramp hard, fill the yard with lands via mill or fetch effects, then swing with trample to crush opponents while abusing the cheap graveyard recursion to dodge removal. Land-based ramp doubles as your defense and your damage.
Strengths
- Recurs itself from the graveyard for
, making it extremely resilient to removal and board wipes
- Reach and trample make it both a strong blocker and an unblockable-style finisher
- Scales enormously with lands, often becoming the biggest creature on the board for free
- Mono-green keeps mana consistent and supports flood-the-yard land synergies
- Cheap commander cost relative to its size; ramp pays for itself
Weaknesses
- Single-color means limited interaction—no counterspells, little spot removal, weak against control
- One well-timed exile effect (Swords, Path, Anguished Unmaking) ignores the recursion
- Voltron strategy paints a target and is vulnerable to multiplayer politics and chump blockers without evasion support
- Edict and -X/-X effects bypass its toughness-based defense
- Relies on landfall/land count, so land destruction or Stax hurts disproportionately
Key Cards
- Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay lands sacrificed for value and fuels Multani's self-return while keeping land count high.
- Splendid Reclamation — Returns all land cards from your graveyard to the battlefield, spiking Multani's size and triggering landfall.
- Ramunap Excavator — A creature Crucible that turns fetchlands and sac lands into repeatable graveyard fuel.
- Rampant Growth — Cheap ramp that grows Multani while accelerating your land count for bigger swings.
- World Shaper — On death, returns all lands from your graveyard to play, supercharging Multani's power and landfall.
- Rancor — Recurring trample/+2/+0 that adds evasion-supporting punch and comes back when it dies.
Upgrade Path
Lean into land recursion and ramp engines like Crucible of Worlds, Ramunap Excavator, and Splendid Reclamation to maximize size and resilience. Add evasion and protection—Lightning Greaves, Whispersilk Cloak, Snakeskin Veil, and trample doublers like Berserk or Rampaging Baloths—to ensure swings connect and survive removal. Tighten the mana with fast green rocks (Sol Ring, Three Visits, Nature's Lore) so you reach lethal Multani turns sooner.
