Omnath, Locus of Mana
The Commander
You don't lose unspent green mana as steps and phases end.
Omnath gets +1/+1 for each unspent green mana you have.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp into massive mana production, then hold green mana across turns to grow Omnath into a lethal threat while keeping that pool available for instant-speed plays. You float green mana through end steps, swing with a huge Omnath, and use the banked mana to power X-spells, big bombs, or protection.
Strengths
- Huge mana acceleration in mono-green makes ramp consistent and explosive
- Omnath becomes a free, scaling beater just by floating mana
- Banked green mana enables instant-speed interaction and X-spells without tapping out
- Mono-green is cheap, focused, and easy to tutor pieces with green's robust ramp suite
Weaknesses
- Omnath is fragile to removal and board wipes, losing all your floated-mana investment
- Mono-green lacks card draw, instant-speed interaction, and counterspells
- No native way to deal direct damage or punch through chump blockers without trample
- Floating mana is wasted if you can't deploy it before drawing-out, and you must commit to Omnath as the engine
Key Cards
- Nyxbloom Ancient — Triples your green mana, ballooning your floated pool and Omnath's size enormously.
- Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger — Doubles your mana and slows opponents, supercharging the Omnath mana engine.
- Karametra's Acolyte — Taps for a massive burst of green mana to bank, fueling Omnath and big plays.
- Garruk Wildspeaker — Untap two lands to generate extra floating mana and provide a fight/overrun outlet.
- Helix Pinnacle — A mono-green alternate win that loves the gigantic mana pools Omnath enables.
- Heroic Intervention — Cheap protection to shield Omnath and your board from removal and wraths.
Upgrade Path
Add mana doublers (Mana Reflection, Zendikar Resurgent) and untap engines (Sword of the Paruns, Umbral Mantle) to break Omnath into infinite or game-ending mana. Improve protection with Heroic Intervention and Bramble Sovereign-style resilience, and add trample/payoffs like Craterhoof Behemoth, Finale of Devastation, and Walking Ballista to convert mana into reliable wins. Round out with fast green ramp (Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Cultivate) and the best mono-green card advantage like Beast Whisperer and Guardian Project.
