Samut, Vizier of Naktamun
The Commander
First strike, vigilance, haste
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, if that creature entered this turn, draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Samut wants a steady stream of fresh creatures swinging in for damage the same turn they arrive, turning every attack into card advantage. You flood the board with hasty threats and token-makers, attack aggressively in the early-to-mid game, and refill your hand off connecting creatures that entered that turn. The deck snowballs: cards drawn deploy more creatures, which draw more cards.
Strengths
- Converts an aggressive board presence into repeatable card draw, solving green-red's traditional card-disadvantage problem
- Commander comes online immediately with first strike, vigilance, and haste for cheap value and combat dominance
- Synergizes with haste anthems, token doublers, and blink effects for explosive draw turns
- Low curve and fast clock pressures the table before slower combo/control decks set up
Weaknesses
- Reliant on creatures connecting—board wipes and Fog effects shut off both damage and draw
- Draw trigger requires creatures to have haste or be freshly blinked, demanding heavy haste support
- No built-in evasion, so gummed-up boards stall the engine
- GR lacks strong interaction, recursion, and protection for the commander against removal
Key Cards
- Fervor — Grants haste to your whole team so every newly cast creature can attack and trigger Samut the turn it enters.
- Hellraiser Goblin — Forces creatures to attack each turn while granting haste, maximizing connections and Samut draws.
- Krenko, Mob Boss — Floods the board with creatures that, with haste support, all enter and swing for a massive draw turn.
- Purphoros, God of the Forge — Adds reach and a token payoff while your hasty creatures pile on damage triggers.
- Conjurer's Closet — Blinks a creature so it 'entered this turn,' letting an evasive attacker draw cards every combat.
- Xenagos, God of Revels — Doubles a creature's power and gives haste, turning one connection into both lethal damage and a card.
Upgrade Path
Lean into reliable haste sources (Lightning Greaves, Mass Hysteria, Rhythm of the Wild) and free token generators so the draw engine never idles. Add evasion and trample (Nylea's Presence-style effects, Rancor, Gruul Spellbreaker) plus a couple of doublers to make connections lethal, and include protection like Heroic Intervention to survive wraths. To push power, add a combo finish such as a sacrifice/Aristocrats line or Impact Tremors plus a token-doubler loop to close games before aggro stalls out.

Win Conditions
- ▸Wide go-wide aggression overwhelming the table with hasty tokens and anthems
- ▸Purphoros or Impact Tremors-style burn finishing players you can't punch through
- ▸Card-advantage snowball deploying threats faster than opponents can answer, then alpha striking
- ▸Big trampling beaters buffed by Xenagos or doublers for commander-damage-level swings
Archetypes
- Aggro Tokens — Mass-produce hasty creatures so each one entering and attacking triggers Samut for card advantage.
- Haste Aggro — Stack haste enablers so every creature cast can immediately swing and draw, fueling a relentless tempo plan.
- Blink/Flicker — Flickering attackers makes them 'enter this turn' so connecting evasive creatures repeatedly draw cards.
- Big Creature Beatdown — Hasty fatties enter and hit hard, drawing cards while applying a fast clock.
