Satsuki, the Living Lore
The Commander
: Put a lore counter on each Saga you control. Activate only as a sorcery.
When Satsuki dies, choose up to one —
• Return target Saga or enchantment creature you control to its owner's hand.
• Return target Saga card from your graveyard to your hand.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with powerful Sagas, then use Satsuki to add lore counters to every Saga at once, accelerating their chapters and triggering their effects multiple times per game. You reuse Sagas by bouncing them before they sacrifice (or recurring them from the yard via Satsuki's death trigger), turning each enchantment into a repeatable engine of value, ramp, and removal.
Strengths
- Doubles down on Saga value by advancing all of them simultaneously each turn
- Built-in recursion and reuse loop via the bounce/return death triggers and blink effects
- GW gives excellent ramp, enchantment tutors, and resilient board states
- Sagas provide flexible, color-pinned answers and threats that dodge most removal
Weaknesses
- Slow to set up and reliant on resolving multiple enchantments before generating real pressure
- Satsuki herself is fragile and a removal magnet that the engine depends on
- Enchantment-heavy decks fold hard to Bane of Progress, Back to Nature, or mass artifact/enchantment wipes
- Lacks an inherent fast combo or burst win, often grinding rather than closing quickly
Key Cards
- The Restoration of Eiganjo — A premier GW Saga that ramps, refills your hand, and rebuilds your board, all amplified by Satsuki's extra counters.
- Calix, Guided by Fate — Creates token copies of your Sagas, multiplying the targets Satsuki advances each turn.
- Tireless Provisioner — Turns the sacrifice/landfall from cycling Sagas and ramp into Treasure and Food for explosive mana.
- Felidar Guardian — Blinks finished or in-progress Sagas to reset them, creating loops alongside Satsuki's counter engine.
- Sythis, Harvest's Hand — Draws cards and gains life every time you cast an enchantment, fueling the Saga-heavy shell.
- Enchantress's Presence — Provides consistent card advantage to keep your Saga engine churning.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the curve with strong ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits, Nature's Lore) and add redundant enchantress card draw (Setessan Champion, Argothian Enchantress) to fuel the engine consistently. Add blink and copy effects like Felidar Guardian, Calix, and Estrid's Invocation to multiply Saga triggers, and run protection (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) plus a fast finisher such as Craterhoof Behemoth or an Approach-style payoff so the deck can actually close after building its value engine.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Beating down with armies of tokens and creatures generated by Sagas like History of Benalia and The Eldest Reborn effects
- ▸Overwhelming value advantage that buries opponents in card and board parity, then closing with an anthem or finisher
- ▸Repeatedly looping a Saga's powerful chapter (removal or token generation) until the board is locked up
- ▸Voltron or wide attacks backed by Calix-copied Sagas and pump effects
Archetypes
- Saga Value/Enchantress — Satsuki's counter-adding ability is purpose-built to maximize and recur Sagas while enchantress effects refill your hand.
- Blink — Flicker effects reset Sagas back to chapter one for repeated value alongside Satsuki's accelerated counters.
- Tokens/Go-Wide — Sagas like Realm-Cloaked Giant, History of Benalia, and token-makers flood the board for a beatdown finish.
- Reanimator/Recursion — Satsuki's death trigger and GW recursion return key Sagas from the yard for grinding inevitability.
