Sigarda, Host of Herons
The Commander
Flying, hexproof
Spells and abilities your opponents control can't cause you to sacrifice permanents.
Guide
Gameplan
Sigarda is a resilient GW value commander that protects you from edicts and sacrifice effects while presenting an evasive, hexproof body. You ramp into her early, build a wide or tall board, and grind out advantage knowing your stuff is hard to remove. Close games either by suiting her up as a Voltron threat or going wide with Humans/tokens.
Strengths
- Hexproof plus flying makes her a sticky, hard-to-answer threat that dodges targeted removal
- Anti-sacrifice clause neuters edicts, group-slug aristocrats, and stax sacrifice effects for your whole board
- GW gives access to elite ramp, enchantress, and token tools
- Naturally resilient commander reduces reliance on protection spells
Weaknesses
- No card advantage or recursion stapled to the commander itself
- Vulnerable to board wipes, exile effects, and -X/-X (hexproof doesn't stop those)
- Lacks evasion-independent reach or interaction in the command zone
- Can be one-dimensional and easy to race in faster combo metas
Key Cards
- Sigarda's Aid — Flashes in Auras and equips instantly, enabling surprise Voltron swings and combat blowouts.
- Shalai, Voice of Plenty — Extends hexproof to your other permanents and players, stacking protection with Sigarda.
- Smothering Tithe — Premier white ramp that snowballs treasure to power out your threats.
- Heliod, Sun-Crowned — Lifegain payoff and a combo enabler that supports the deck's go-tall plans.
- Tireless Tracker — Turns lands and explore effects into a steady stream of cards in a color pair short on draw.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and efficient ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits, Nature's Lore) to deploy Sigarda ahead of curve, then layer protection like Shalai and Swiftfoot Boots for the whole team. Tighten the wincon by committing to either a tight Voltron suite (Skullclamp avoidance via lifelink, Eldrazi Conscription, Sigarda's Aid) or a go-wide payoff package (Craterhoof Behemoth, anthems). Upgrade the manabase with duals/fetches and add real interaction such as Swords to Plowshares and Beast Within to cover Sigarda's lack of removal.

Archetypes
- Voltron — Her built-in hexproof makes Auras and Equipment investments safe from removal for lethal commander damage.
- Humans/Go-Wide — Sigarda is a Human payoff and protects a wide board from sacrifice-based wipes.
- Hatebears/Stax — Her anti-sac clause lets you run punishing sacrifice taxes while keeping your own permanents safe.
