Slimefoot, the Stowaway
The Commander
Whenever a Saproling you control dies, Slimefoot deals 1 damage to each opponent and you gain 1 life.
: Create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token.
Guide
Gameplan
Build a wide board of Saproling tokens, then sacrifice them for value and incremental damage. Slimefoot turns every dying Saproling into reach and lifegain, so you grind opponents out with token swarms, sacrifice outlets, and eventually a single big payoff that kills the table at once.
Strengths
- Self-contained engine: the commander makes tokens and provides a built-in win condition
- Resilient to board wipes since it rebuilds tokens for
and reloads from the command zone
- Aristocrats damage hits all opponents at once, making it strong in multiplayer
- Strong synergy density in Golgari with sacrifice, tokens, and recursion
Weaknesses
- Slow without ramp; the
ability is mana-hungry to use repeatedly
- Relies on the board staying populated—graveyard hate and exile effects hurt
- Damage output is slow if you lack mass-sacrifice and token doublers
- Vulnerable to creature-light stax and flyers/evasion races without good blockers
Key Cards
- Sporemound — Makes a Saproling on every land drop, fueling the engine for free.
- Sprout Swarm — Convoke-powered token machine with buyback to flood the board endlessly.
- Doubling Season — Doubles every Saproling created, instantly scaling Slimefoot's damage and bodies.
- Parallel Lives — Cheap token doubler that turns each activation and trigger into twice the value.
- Verdurous Gladecutter — Spawns four Saprolings, giving a huge burst of bodies to sacrifice.
- Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that converts your board into both mana and Slimefoot damage.
Upgrade Path
Add fast ramp (Sol Ring, Cabal Coffers, Nykthos) and free sacrifice outlets (Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar, Viscera Seer) to loop tokens efficiently. Layer multiple token doublers (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Anointed Procession) and a payoff like Craterhoof Behemoth or a Mycoloth/Pitiless Plunderer engine for explosive turns. Tighten the mana base with duals and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Eladamri's Call) and add recursion like Eternal Witness to rebuild after wipes.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Mass-sacrificing a huge Saproling board through Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar to drain the table
- ▸Overrun-style alpha strike with Craterhoof Behemoth or Beastmaster Ascension
- ▸Grinding incremental Slimefoot pings out with recursive token generators
- ▸Poison/evasion damage if including outlets that also push aristocrat drain
Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Dying Saprolings drain each opponent and gain life, the core Slimefoot loop.
- Tokens — Saproling generators and doublers build the wide board he feeds on.
- +1/+1 Counters / Fungus-Saproling synergy — Cards like Mycoloth and Thallid tribal pair counters with token production.
- Sacrifice Value — Free sac outlets convert tokens into mana, cards, and damage simultaneously.
