Superior Spider-Man
The Commander
Mind Swap — You may have Superior Spider-Man enter as a copy of any creature card in a graveyard, except his name is Superior Spider-Man and he's a 4/4 Spider Human Hero in addition to his other types. When you do, exile that card.
Guide
Gameplan
Superior Spider-Man is a flexible Dimir reanimator/clone commander: fill graveyards (yours or opponents'), then cast him as a 4/4 copy of the best creature card buried there. You leverage powerful ETB effects, evasive bodies, or value engines on the cheap from the command zone, recasting and re-copying as the board changes. Win by grinding incremental card and tempo advantage until a copied bomb or assembled combo closes the game.
Strengths
- Built-in flexibility: copies whatever the strongest creature in any graveyard is, adapting to the matchup
- Steals value from opponents' graveyards while exiling their best targets as graveyard hate
- Commander-tax-resilient repeatability — you can recast and re-copy a different creature each time
- Blue card draw plus black tutors/reanimation make assembling pieces consistent
- ETB and death triggers double up with blink and sacrifice synergies
Weaknesses
- Requires graveyard fuel — a clean board with empty graveyards leaves him a vanilla 4/4
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) which shuts off targets
- Two-color identity lacks ramp and big board wipes outside the staples
- Copy effects can whiff if the only targets are mediocre creatures
- Loses tempo to spot removal since rebuilding the copy each cast costs mana
Key Cards
- Buried Alive — Stocks your graveyard with exactly the bomb creatures you want Spider-Man to become.
- Entomb — Cheaply tutors a single perfect copy target into the graveyard before recasting him.
- Reanimate — Lets you also pull copy targets onto the battlefield, giving redundancy beyond the commander.
- Sheoldred, Whispering One — A premium ETB/upkeep engine that's brutal to copy and grinds opponents down.
- Grave Titan — Copying it gives you a 4/4 that still makes two 2/2 Zombies and rebuilds on attack.
- Body Double — Redundant graveyard-copy effect that mirrors the commander's plan from the 99.
- Eternal Witness — A cheap copy target that recurs your best spells while attaching to Spider-Man's body.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Sol Ring) and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to set up your graveyard and recast him quickly. Lean into a tight reanimation package with redundant clone effects (Phyrexian Metamorph, Dimir Doppelganger) and self-mill (Stitcher's Supplier, Mesmeric Orb) so a great target is always available. For higher power, build toward a copy-based combo or a Thassa/blink loop that abuses ETB triggers for a deterministic finish.
